Brookfield State School’s Red Ball Team played at the Brisbane International in soaring temperatures on Thursday 2nd January against ten top schools from around Queensland.

Brookfield’s team of ten players, ranging in age from Prep to Year 3, were undefeated leading up to the Grand Final where they played St Catherine’s College.

They completed a clean sweep in the final to be crowned Red Ball State Champions.

It was exciting and a great honour for Brookfield State School’s Red Ball Team to be presented with their trophy on Pat Rafter Arena in front of 5,000 people.

The success at the tournament is the result of hard work invested into the sport in the local community. Brookfield State School took advantage of two new tennis courts when construction was completed in February 2013.

The Brookfield Tennis Centre, run by Sue and Greg Braun, delivered the school a coaching program and throughout last year the MLC Hot Shots and Tennis In Schools programs were also introduced to Brookfield.

With the wonderful support of the school and their local club, tennis flourished on the new courts for children from Prep to Year 7.

2013 was the first year Brookfield State School entered teams for the Inter Schools Cup Competition.

Success was achieved with both their Red Ball and Green ball teams, winners of regional divisions.

They consequently qualified to compete in the State MLC Hot Shots Championships held at the Queensland Tennis Centre during the 2014 Brisbane International.

After the wonderful success at the Brisbane International, the Brookfield State School have formed a stronger partnership with the Brookfield Tennis Centre in 2014 to further develop the game of tennis in Brookfield.
