Welcome TQ's new PWID Head Coach - Alison Scott

20 February 2013 |

We are happy to announce that Tennis Queensland have appointed a new State ID Coach – Alison Scott.

Alison commenced her coaching career at Beenleigh 16 years ago, completing Level 1 and Level 2 (Club Pro) coaching accreditations.  Even in the earlier years of her coaching career she knew she wanted to work with players with special needs and did so intermittently, mostly with young children.

In 2010 Alison moved to Coffs Harbour (her home town).  She spent a very productive two years in Coffs Harbour completing her Master Club Pro accreditation, working with Coach and Mentor Tony Polack and training Damian Phillips, PWID.

“Working with and training Damian was a life changing experience. His dedication, passion, hard work and development as a player was a privilege to be a part of” says Alison.

Last year Alison provided tennis at the Inclusions Sports Expo at Cornubia, which was a great success.  All the participants and teachers were blown away with how easy and fun it was for the children to play and participate with the modified equipment.  Late last year Alison started working with Lifestream which provided an opportunity to deliver tennis at some local  special schools and primary schools with special education units.  Alison plans on continuing this in 2013 as well as endeavouring to seek funding to enable a higher number of programs.

With the support of Tennis Queensland Alison is very much looking forward to working with and developing the PWID program; increasing awareness to families with ID children through networking communities, clubs and councils as well as delivering and promoting Hot Shots in schools and educating participants to the player pathways possible for all.

We would also like to thank our outgoing State ID Coach Simon Davis, whose help was very greatly appreciated from both TQ’s end as well as all of the players which you assisted and guided during this time!
