It gives us great pleasure to announce nine year old Newstead resident Arwen Koesmapahlawan has been awarded the Medibank Junior Development Series (MJDS) player of the year honour.

Arwen, who competed in over half of the total events (10), was outstanding throughout the entire year claiming a remarkable seven singles titles and three runner up titles over the 9/u and 11/u girls age group. Arwen is known for her outstanding attitude, passion for everything tennis and her willingness to learn and develop her game for the future.

Over a year which included numerous highlights resulting in a 9/u state title at the MJDS Tassie Showdown Arwen compiled the following highlights;

9/u events (6 titles)

  • Riverside, Devonport, Rosny, Glenorchy, LTA Wimbledon and Tassie Showdown (Winner)

11/u events (1 title, 3 Runner Up)

  • LTA US Open (Winner), LTA French, Trevallyn and Sunshine (Runners Up)

For claiming the series’ highest honour Arwen will receive $500 in private coaching which will no doubt assist her in her tennis development.Other notable performers over this fantastic developmental series included Kiran Naidoo, Jed Plunkett-Smith, Rebecca Flinn, Oscar Targett, Chelsea Leggett, Samuel Plunkett-Smith and Bianca Holloway. In total we compiled over 250 unique players over the eighteen completed tournaments with over 700 total entries during the MJDS.
