Grand Final

Club pride was on the line with an all Gardens Tennis Grand Final in the People’s Choice Metro League Grand Final.

Gardens Tennis 1:  3 Rubbers / 8 Sets / 74 Games
Gardens Tennis 2:  3 Rubbers / 7 Sets / 79 Games

Frank Wallner and Mark Pead got GT2 off to a great start with a convincing 6-1 6-4 win in the #1 Doubles over Harrison Lee-Schell and Ben Scott. GT1 pairing of Michael Shepheard and David Bridges squared everything up with a close fought win over Naomi Fellows and Andrew Hawke 7-6(4) 6-4. Fellows got her revenge in the singles with a gruelling win over youngster Shepheard in a match tie-break 4-6 7-5 10-5. The result was reversed in the #1 singles with Lee-Schell taking out Pead 6-4 2-6 10-4.

All tied up with two matches to go Steve Lewis-Driver stepped in for GT1 defeating Andrew Hawke 6-3 6-3 in the #4 singles. With GT1 ahead by 3 Rubbers to 2 they only needed one set to clinch victory, GT1 #2 Ben Scott was trailing GT2 Frank Wallner 4-1 in the first set with a count-back looking likely, however Scott dug deep to take the next five games to claim the set and ultimately the Grand Final for Gardens Tennis 1.
