The People’s Choice Metro League began last weekend with convincing wins for DTC Sports 2 and Tennis Palmerston.

In the DTC Sports derby it was DTC Sports 2 that dominated from the outset claiming an 8 Rubbers to 1 victory.

DTC Sports 2 got off to a great start claiming five of the six singles Rubbers. Lucas Frichot the lone winner for DTC Sports 1 with victory in the #5 singles over Tenille Waters 6-1 6-0. However they didn’t have it all their own way in the doubles, with two of the three doubles progressing to the crucial Match Tiebreak.

People’s Choice Reserve League
DTC Sports 2 reserve team followed in their teammates footsteps with a 4 Rubbers to 2 win over DTC Sports 1.

DTC Sports 1 claimed the first victory with Natalie Roe and Cooper King defeating Rosie Henderson and Peter Politis in the #1 doubles 6-3 1-6 7-6. Unfortunately they couldn’t keep the momentum going, losing three of the four singles Rubbers.

Tennis Palmerston v Gardens Tennis

People’s Choice Metro League
Tennis Palmerston hosted their first People’s Choice Metro League match, providing an exciting 7 Rubbers to 2 win over Gardens Tennis.

The home team was off to a shaky start with Steve Lewis-Driver and Scott Boller (Gardens Tennis) claiming the #1 doubles victory over George Shepheard and Carlos Ruiz 6-3 6-3. Tennis Palmerston rallied back to take the remaining two doubles Rubbers along with five of the six singles Rubbers.

People’s Choice Reserve League
Also following in the footsteps of their teammates; Tennis Palmerston dominated Gardens Tennis with a 5 Rubbers to 1 victory.

Oskar Floeck and Rebecca Rayner held off a late charge to claim victory over Gardens Tennis’ Darren and Jacob  6-4 4-6 7-6. Jacob recorded Gardens Tennis’ lone win with victory over Valentina Floeck in the #4 singles 0-6 6-3 7-6.

The People’s Choice Metro League Player of the Year looks to be a tight race with 4 games separating the top three players and DTC Sports 2 having four of the top 5 players!

DTC Sports 2 and Tennis Palmerston have handy leads in the People’s Choice Metro League Premiership with convincing wins, however this will be shorted lived as they do battle in Round 2.
