Across the 6th to the 8th of December, the NT held it’s first invitational “Northern Territory State Masters” event in Darwin. This was an opportunity for all states and territories around Australia to host an event for the best junior players who did not qualify for the national masters.
Invites went to the top 6 players in every age group according to UTR (under 12’s, under 14’s, under 16’s). Some players were already travelling and others could not make the event, so the invites were extended to the next rated available players.
Four players travelled to Darwin they were Ethan Seneca (U16’s Boys – Alice Springs), Maia Epiha (U12’s Girls – Gove/Nhulunbuy), Alice Giallouris (U12’s Girls – Gove/Nhulunbuy), Elizabeth France (U14’s Girls – Alice Springs). Players were also glad to use the Masters as a great event leading up to the QLD Regional teams event in December. If continuing again next year, we will include a doubles event for all of the players to include more matches – especially for travelling players.
A special shout out for the under 12’s girls finals match which went for 2h 50min (3-6, 6-2, 7-5). Caitlyn Casey took the championship against Taylor Albury – with both girls showed tonnes of fighting spirit.
