World Tennis Day began as an idea to set aside one day each year to promote tennis participation around the globe. The International Tennis Federation and StarGames brought this idea to fruition on March 4, 2013. The inaugural World Tennis Day was centered around a series of high profile Showdown events around the world featuring current and former professional players, including the BNP Paribas Showdown in New York.

World Tennis Day is highlighted by worldwide grassroots opportunities for young players to participate in the sport at the local level. Currently 90 nations support World Tennis Day.

In 2013, 58 of the ITF’s National Associations supported the initiative with their own club activities in their nation during that day. Some of these activities include Argentina closed the widest road in the world, 9 de Julio Avenue, to construct 50 tennis courts in order for the local children to play on.

HAPPY WORLD TENNIS DAY!
