Club pride was on the line with an all Gardens Tennis Grand Final in both the People’s Choice Metro League and the People’s Choice Junior League.

Ben McLachlan, Harry Lee-Schell, Ben Scott, Steve Lewis-Driver, Naomi Fellows and Ockie Steyn
Gardens Tennis 2:  2 Rubbers / 5 Sets / 53 Games
Dave Bridges, Luke Black, Andrew Hawke, Matt Grassmayr

GT 1 had a commanding lead after the doubles with McLachlan and Scott advancing 6-3 6-1 over Bridges and Black. However it wasn’t all smooth sailing in the other doubles with Lewis-Driver and Steyn dropping the first set 6-3. They however stormed home in the second to take it 6-0, with the match tie-break doing down to the wire 10-7 in favour of Lewis-Driver and Steyn.

McLachlan added to GT1’s total with the #1 singles over Bridges 6-1 6-2, while at the same time Grassmayr for GT2 keep their hopes alive with a 6-1 7-5 win over Steyn in the #4 singles. Scott clinched the decisive fourth rubber for GT1 with his win over Black in the #2 singles. Match of the Grand Final however belonged to Andrew Hawke and Steve Lewis-Driver in the #3 singles, a gruelling battle that neither player wanted to lose, however it was Hawke who came out on top with a 6-3 5-7 10-8 win!

Kyle O’Donoghue-Ellis, Ashley Setterfield, Arkie Feehan, Isabella Setterfield

Coen Hutt, Nicholas Carmichael, Grace Henderson, Davis Zweck and Clancy McCormick

GT2 looked to be on track for a 2-0 lead after the doubles however Zweck and McCormick had other ideas, fighting back from a set down to take the #2 doubles 1-4 4-3 4-3. While in the #1 doubles O’Donoghue-Ellis and A.Setterfield claimed victory 4-0 4-3 over Hutt and Henderson.

All squared at 1-all it was going to come down to the singles. A.Setterfield and Feehan got GT2 off to a great lead with wins over Henderson and Zweck respectively. While the remaining two matches went down to the wire in the third set. However, it was GT2 that came out on top with O’Donoghue-Ellis winning 4-3 2-4 4-1 over Hutt and I.Setterfield over McCormick 2-4 4-0 4-1.
