Results for the Tathra Beach Country Club AMT Tennis tournament that was held over the long weekend in near perfect conditions at Tathra Beach Country Club are as follows

 On Saturday the women’s B doubles winners Helen McDuff and Lee Emerson, both from ACT, we’re the winners over Barb Johnson from  Batemans Bay with Vanessa Miller from Act,as they had to stop play due to injury. , also pictured with them is Amber the dog.2-6, 0-2 In the under 14’s girls which was played as a round robin the winner was Natasha Randall from Sydney .

In the men’s B doubles, which started the day playing in the bega then the finals were played in Tathra the winners were Brian Emerson from act , and Andrew Miller , ACT they took the win from Graeme Hissey, and David Johnston from Batemans bay and surf beach.7-5, 6-1.

Men’s Special Doubles was taken by local favourites Denis Love and Bob Warren, over Josh Fraser and Ben Sterland from the ACT 6-7,6-3,6-3.

The Women’s Doubles played as a round robin and was won by ACT players Sam Briggs and Grace O’Rourke  from Chris Fraser and Helen Holcombe also from the ACT.

On Sunday, the Men’s Special Singles started the day in Bega, and finished in Tathra with Paul Warren winning over Denis Love, both rivals from Bega. 6-4,2-6,10-4.

The Men’s B singles also started in bega, with the final in Tathra between Mark Myers from Kiama  and Andrew Miller from the Act. The winner was Andrew Miller 7-6, 2-0, Mark retired due to injury.

In the Women’s B singles played between Naomi Blunden and Vanessa Miller from the ACT, the winner was Vanessa Miller 6-3, 7-5.

The last game to finish on Sunday was the AMT Men’s Doubles between Alexander DeJong from ACT, and Scott Gardiner from Merimbula against Brendan Smith from Kiama and Robert Baddeley from Dalmeny. The winners were Scott and Alexander 6-2, 6-3.

On Monday the first game to finish was the boys under 14’s singles held as a Round robin this was won by Paul Warren of Bega with 24 games and runner up was Blake Austin-Tock (Bermagui) with 22 games.

Next in was the mixed C doubles which saw David Johnston (SurfBeach), and Sylvie Mester from Tathra defeated by Graeme Hussey (Sydney) and Barb Johnston ( SurfBeach) 7-5, 6-3.

In the mixed B doubles the winners were Tim and Naomi Blunden from Surfside Beating Peter Ewart and Erica Pearce from Cooma, 6-1, 6-2

The mixed special doubles had many entrants including Denis Glover and John Rheinburger who played and won, in the original Tathra tennis tournament 50years ago, but they were taken out this time by the eventual winners (score was 10-7). So the winners were Josh Fraser and Samantha Briggs, from Cooma, taking the win from Sam and Trish Williams, also from Cooma.

The mixed open doubles was won by Christian Parker (ACT) and Tara Paxton (Batemans Bay) from Ben Sterland (Hatham, ACT) and Grace O’Rourke, Belconnen, ACT, 7-6, 6-5.

In the Open Men’s Consolation Singles the winner was Bjorn Myers, Kiama, and runner up was Ben Sterland 6-3, 6-0.

The final for the AMT Men’s singles and the Women’s AMT Singles was also held on Monday In the women’s open singles there was a tough battle between Tara Paxton (Batemans Bay) who fought a long game to come out in front of Grace O’Rourke from ACT, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.

In the Men’s Open,  the winner was Todd Halcombe from the ACT who defeated Christian Parker, also from the ACT 6-1, 6-2. In this game Todd was quoted as saying the “score did not reflect the game, I just got some lucky ones” as each point was a fantastic rally, they were very evenly matched.

Todd and his family have been coming here since (about) 2000 , since he was about 16, and Todd has now won the open singles 3 times – 2008, 2010 and 2013.

Todd’s parents Greg and Helen Halcombe have been winners in many divisions over the past many years, and were quoted in saying, ” they love coming to Tathra not only for the friendly tennis, but to enjoy the holiday atmosphere with the many other family activities available so close by. Especially the good coffee, bike riding and whale watching.

Christian Parker was no.1 seed in this competition and has been coming here since he was 13, (now 19yrs old) this was his first final in Tathra. His parents have been coming here for 15 years and his brother, Nelson, won the 2005 Open Singles.
