Closure during Stage 3 COVID-19

30 July 2020 |

Following the announcement of Stage 3 restrictions on July 7, please see a further update below in regards to Wyndham City Council’s position on Tennis activities.

After due consideration, Council have made the decision to close all Council owned tennis courts across Wyndham while the current stage 3 restrictions are in place. This includes use for public access, club member access and coaching activities, and is effective immediately.

While Council acknowledge the DHHS guidelines state that Tennis is an allowable form of exercise, it is Council’s view that the activation of these spaces encourage a level of congregation that is not essential as the wider community looks to decrease activity and risk of spread of the virus.

Council acknowledge the Clubs’ continued commitment to operate within the constraints of State Government restrictions in place, as well as regulations by Tennis Victoria and Council.  Council also acknowledge and understand that this move is far from ideal, particularly for members and coaches Council believe this is the best possible approach to limiting the spread of COVID-19, and seek your support in doing all we can to ensure our community remains safe and healthy.

Council will continue to review our position over the coming weeks as the situation continues to evolve, and particularly if there are signs of restrictions easing. Council will look to communicate to Clubs if there are any changes to the above.
