The\u00a0Margaret River Tennis International<\/b>\u00a0is back in town, and world No.169\u00a0Hiroko Kuwata (JPN)\u00a0<\/b>will headline the field at the Pro Tour event taking place at the\u00a0Margaret River Tennis Club\u00a0<\/b>from\u00a025 October-1 November, 2014<\/b>.<\/p>\n
Local tennis fans will have the opportunity to attend the free event and watch the likes of\u00a0Kuwata\u00a0and second seeded\u00a0Alize Lim (FRA)\u00a0<\/b>along with a crop of up-and-coming tennis stars from Australia and around the world to compete for\u00a0$25,000\u00a0<\/b>in prize money and valuable world ranking points.<\/p>\n
Kuwata\u00a0<\/b>will face strong competition from international competitors including\u00a0Rebecca Peterson (SWE<\/b>), Stephanie Vogt (LIE)\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0Risa Osaki (JPN)\u00a0<\/b>as well as home-grown crowd favourite\u00a0Jessica Moore (Williams, WA)\u00a0<\/b>who is making a solid comeback to the circuit after almost 12 months out of the game.<\/p>\n
Moore will be joined by top Australian female talent including eighth-ranked Australian\u00a0Monique<\/b>\u00a0Adamczak (NSW<\/b>),\u00a0Isabella Holland (QLD<\/b>) and Commonwealth Games gold medallist\u00a0Sally Peers (VIC),\u00a0<\/b>who will both battle it out in the qualifying rounds of the tournament.<\/p>\n
Local WA girls\u00a0Karis Ryan, Maddison Inglis, Tiewa Casey, Marisa Gianotti, Maria Knott, Anja Dokic, Meg Connell, Megan Kauffman, Sara Stikic, Olivia Rimmer\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0Jasmine Corswell<\/b>\u00a0will also be vying for spots in the main draw event.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s fantastic to see such a strong field for the\u00a0Margaret River Tennis International<\/b>. These events provide a chance for Australian players to play top quality professional tennis, and allow the local community to get close to the action free of charge,\u201d said tournament director\u00a0Loretta Hughes<\/b>.<\/p>\n
Hughes also praised the Shire of Augusta Margaret River and the Department of Sport & Recreation for their ongoing support and encouraged the community to get behind the future of Australian tennis at the event.<\/p>\n
\u201cFollowing last year\u2019s success, we hope the local community can once again head down to watch our country\u2019s up and coming tennis stars take their next step onto the global tennis stage at this free community event,\u201d\u00a0<\/b>she said.<\/p>\n
Margaret River Tennis Club President,\u00a0Chris Jarrot<\/b>,\u00a0said the club and local community has a great appreciation for the event, and is excited that the tournament is once again back in Margaret River.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Margaret River Pro Tour provides a great opportunity for all tennis lovers and members of the community to watch some quality tennis players in action. These are the superstars of the future, and everyone has a chance to see them up close and personal, and for free,\u201d said Jarrot.<\/p>\n
From\u00a028-30 October, the tournament will host community activations and tennis programs with local primary schools, as well as free adult coaching programs and cardio tennis sessions, which are open to all members of the public.<\/p>\n
As well as watching top quality tennis, the community will be able to try ANZ Tennis Hot Shots, watch a Cardio Tennis demonstration or have a go at the Speed Serve.<\/p>\n
Qualifying will begin on\u00a0Sunday 26 October<\/b>\u00a0and the main draw on\u00a0Monday 27 October<\/b>\u00a0with play commencing at\u00a010am<\/b>\u00a0each day.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Margaret River Tennis International<\/b>\u00a0is part of the Australian Pro Tour, a series of professional tennis events that bridge junior events and the ATP\/WTA Tour, providing an opportunity for players to earn their first world ranking points and compete against top 200 world ranked players.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
