{"id":8726,"date":"2014-04-23T14:35:17","date_gmt":"2014-04-23T06:35:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=8726"},"modified":"2014-04-23T14:35:17","modified_gmt":"2014-04-23T06:35:17","slug":"was-maddison-inglis-to-lead-charge-at-gallipoli-youth-cup-in-melbourne","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2014\/04\/23\/was-maddison-inglis-to-lead-charge-at-gallipoli-youth-cup-in-melbourne","title":{"rendered":"WA\u2019s Maddison Inglis to lead charge at Gallipoli Youth Cup in Melbourne"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8727\" alt=\"Maddison-Inglis-(WA)-&amp;-Jake-Delaney-(NSW)-with-Gallipoli-Youth-Cup-trophies\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/files\/2014\/04\/Maddison-Inglis-WA-Jake-Delaney-NSW-with-Gallipoli-Youth-Cup-trophies.jpg\" width=\"410\" height=\"292\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">The <b>Gallipoli Youth Cup<\/b> was officially launched in Melbourne today, with the battle for 2014 honours now under way on the clay courts at Melbourne Park.<\/p>\n<p>WA rising star<b> Maddison Inglis <\/b>(Maida Vale, WA) \u00a0and NSW counterpart <b>Jake Delaney <\/b>(Sydney, NSW) will lead the girls\u2019 and boys\u2019 fields respectively, and are joined at the event by a host of local and international talent.<\/p>\n<p>Former Australian Davis Cup captain <b>John Fitzgerald<\/b> said the tournament was a fantastic opportunity for young players to compete at a world class facility while commemorating the fallen soldiers at Gallipoli.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Gallipoli Youth Cup gives players the chance to compete at a first-class venue and also to honour those who served their country in war,\u201d Fitzgerald said.<\/p>\n<p>Off court the Gallipoli Youth Cup\u2019s <b>School Commemoration Program <\/b>(SCP) continues to grow. The program has been embraced by schools, teachers and children from around Victoria, with almost 1000 students estimated to participate in activities this year.<\/p>\n<p>The SCP is recognised by RSL Victoria, which helps to organise and present the education program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRSL Victoria sees the SCP as a key activity for the ongoing education of youth around ANZAC Day, and we look forward to developing this educational program for years to come,\u201d said <b>Michael Annett, CEO RSL Victoria.<br \/>\n<\/b><br \/>\n<b>Umit Oraloglu, Founding Director of Gallipoli Youth Cup<\/b>, added: \u201cWith the support of RSL Victorian Branch and various other sub branches, I am confident we will achieve our benchmark in line with the centenary anniversary of Gallipoli next year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Gallipoli Youth Cup and its School Commemoration Program are now part of the <b>Australian Tennis Foundation. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Gallipoli Youth Cup was first held in 2008 and is the brainchild of Oraloglu and Australian tennis legend and tournament ambassador <b>Pat Cash<\/b>, in partnership with Tennis Australia. The event brings together the Australian and Turkish communities in commemoration of their shared ANZAC histories.<\/p>\n<p><b>Consul General for the Republic of Turkey Mehmet Apak<\/b> said: &#8220;The tournament offers a great opportunity to further build the unique friendship around a mutually binding Gallipoli theme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe School Commemoration Program is a fantastic way of engaging communities in commemorating the fallen soldiers at Gallipoli.
