Tennis fans will see WA\u2019s<\/strong> best junior players in action in January 2014 as they compete in the prestigious Summer Gold Tournament<\/strong> at Alexander Park Tennis Club<\/strong> in Menora<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The tournament is one of the junior Gold Series tournaments conducted by Tennis Australia<\/strong> across the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re very excited to be holding the 2014 Summer Gold Tournament at Alexander Park,\u201d said tournament director Ken Brown<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s set to be the biggest and best tennis tournament this season for junior players, and we\u2019re looking forward to some good crowds turning up to see our rising tennis stars.\u201d<\/p>\n

The tournament runs from Monday 6 January to Friday 10 January 2014<\/strong> at Alexander Park Tennis Club<\/strong> in Clyde St, Menora<\/strong>. On line entries are open now: www.tennis.com.au\/tournaments<\/p>\n

Mr Brown<\/strong> said the players will compete for Gold Australian ranking points in girls\u2019 and boys\u2019 12, 14, 16 and 18\/U singles and doubles events. There will also be \u2018Green Ball\u2019 singles and doubles events for girls and boys 10\/U players.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a special incentive for players to enter both singles and doubles events, the Perth Mint has kindly donated two sets of its Young Collectors Animal Athletes coin albums valued at a total of $190,\u201d Mr Brown said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis coin series shows six different Australian animals in the wild that have amazing abilities, many of which can often resemble the sports in which human athletes compete.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are fabulous prizes and the names of players who enter both singles and doubles will go in the draw to win a set, with one set for a boy player and one for a girl player.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Brown<\/strong> said that the patron for the tournament is the Australian<\/strong> tennis legend Margaret Court<\/strong>, the former world champion tennis player who has won more than 60 major international tennis titles. Mrs Court<\/strong> will present the trophies at the end of the event.<\/p>\n

Alexander Park<\/strong> is recognised as having some of the best grass courts in WA<\/strong> and last year was awarded WA Tennis Club of the Year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Over the years, the club has also developed a solid reputation for staging top-level tennis tournaments.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur courts have been the setting for many prominent tennis tournaments,\u201d Mr Brown said. \u201cThese include the WA Open, the Pizzey Cup (the national schoolboys\u2019 competition), the World Veterans tennis tournament, and Country Week tournaments.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd we\u2019re pleased that Tennis Australia has given us a vote of confidence in picking us as the venue for the 2014 Summer Gold Tournament.\u201d<\/p>\n
