{"id":7364,"date":"2013-08-29T17:22:34","date_gmt":"2013-08-29T09:22:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=7364"},"modified":"2013-08-29T17:22:34","modified_gmt":"2013-08-29T09:22:34","slug":"dellacqua-still-motivated-despite-open-loss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2013\/08\/29\/dellacqua-still-motivated-despite-open-loss","title":{"rendered":"Dellacqua still motivated despite Open loss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2013\/08\/29\/dellacqua-still-motivated-despite-open-loss\/attachment\/casey-dellacqua-2\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7365\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7365\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/files\/2013\/08\/Casey-Dellacqua-410x272.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"410\" height=\"272\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite a first-round loss at the US Open to fellow qualifier Ajla Tomljanovic on Tuesday, Casey Dellacqua remains motivated ahead of further competitive outings at Flushing Meadows on the doubles court.<\/p>\n<p>Dellacqua squandered a first set lead to Croatian Tomljanovic, going down in the second set under pressure from her opponent\u2019s strong forehand.<\/p>\n<p>In the third set, the Aussie was broken in the first game and went on to lose the match 3-6 6-1 6-4 to the 20-year-old, who will now play 26th seed Alize Cornet of France in the second round.<\/p>\n<p>Dellacqua, currently ranked No.184 in singles, is now eyeing off a deeper tournament run in the doubles with fellow Australian Ash Barty.<\/p>\n<p>The pair have enjoyed a memorable 2013 already, making it to the Australian Open and Wimbledon finals and collecting the trophy in Birmingham, Dellacqua\u2019s second WTA doubles title of the year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve played four tournaments, made two Grand Slam finals and won a WTA event so it\u2019ll be good to get back out there with Ash,\u201d Dellacqua said.<\/p>\n<p>She is also looking forward to playing mixed doubles with Scott Lipsky, with whom she won the French Open crown in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>And Dellacqua declared she has even more to play for after revealing her partner Amanda recently had a baby.<\/p>\n<p>Dellacqua says their baby Blake Benjamin arrived just three weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was my time to be at home and it was my time to relax and enjoy myself,\u201d the 28-year-old said, explaining her absence from tennis after Wimbledon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m loving motherhood, my whole thing in life is family and it\u2019s been a pretty exciting time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Western Australian says she doesn\u2019t think the birth will make her want to cut back on tennis and spend more time at home. \u201cIf anything, I don\u2019t know, maybe it makes me a bit more motivated because I\u2019ve got something to play for,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Dellacqua says that while she\u2019s passionate about tennis, it\u2019s not everything to her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an elite sport but there\u2019s so much more to life and for me that\u2019s what life\u2019s about, about family so we\u2019ll try and make it work,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou see a lot of players out on tour with families.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Despite a first-round loss at the US Open to fellow qualifier Ajla Tomljanovic on Tuesday, Casey Dellacqua remains motivated ahead of further competitive outings at Flushing Meadows on the doubles court.
