{"id":6676,"date":"2013-06-14T10:24:09","date_gmt":"2013-06-14T02:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=6676"},"modified":"2013-06-14T10:24:09","modified_gmt":"2013-06-14T02:24:09","slug":"ebden-awarded-wimbledon-wildcard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2013\/06\/14\/ebden-awarded-wimbledon-wildcard","title":{"rendered":"Ebden awarded Wimbledon wildcard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2013\/06\/14\/ebden-awarded-wimbledon-wildcard\/attachment\/mathew-ebden-4\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6677\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6677\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/files\/2013\/06\/Mathew-Ebden3-410x276.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"410\" height=\"276\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Australian Matthew Ebden has been rewarded for his strong recent form with a wildcard entry into Wimbledon.<\/p>\n<p>Ebden, 25, will compete in the main draw of the grasscourt Grand Slam for the second time after he was included in the first round of wildcards announced by organisers on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The world No.109 won the Nottingham Challenger tournament on grass last week.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019ll join compatriots Bernard Tomic, Marinko Matosevic and Lleyton Hewitt in the main draw, while Ebden has also been granted a wildcard entry into the men\u2019s doubles alongside Britain\u2019s Jamie Delgado.<\/p>\n<p>James Duckworth, Matt Barton, Sam Groth, Matt Reid and John-Patrick Smith are among the Australian men that will enter Wimbledon qualifying, starting on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Rising Australian young gun Nick Kyrgios would need a wildcard into Wimbledon qualifying or the main draw to have any chance at competing in a second straight Grand Slam following an impressive showing at the French Open.<\/p>\n<p>Anastasia Rodionova, Casey Dellacqua, Olivia Rogowska, Ash Barty and Monique Adamzcak will feature in women\u2019s qualifying as they attempt to join Sam Stosur in the main draw.<\/p>\n<p>Britain\u2019s Kyle Edmund and James Ward and Frenchman Nicolas Mahut were the other men to be handed wildcard spots in the Wimbledon main draw on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Five British women \u2013 Elena Baltacha, Anne Keothavong, Johanna Konta, Tara Moore, Samantha Murray \u2013 and German Andrea Petkovic earned women\u2019s wild cards.<\/p>\n<p>Wimbledon starts on Monday 24 June.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Australian Matthew Ebden has been rewarded for his strong recent form with a wildcard entry into Wimbledon.
