{"id":6554,"date":"2013-06-11T09:51:31","date_gmt":"2013-06-11T01:51:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=6554"},"modified":"2013-06-11T09:51:31","modified_gmt":"2013-06-11T01:51:31","slug":"aussies-in-action-grasscourt-season-underway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2013\/06\/11\/aussies-in-action-grasscourt-season-underway","title":{"rendered":"Aussies in action: grasscourt season underway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2013\/06\/11\/aussies-in-action-grasscourt-season-underway\/attachment\/sydney-international-day-2\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6555\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6555\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/files\/2013\/06\/159054845-410x276.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"410\" height=\"276\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Four-time champion Lleyton Hewitt will be aiming for a much-needed run of matches when he begins his 13th Queen\u2019s Club tennis tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Hewitt \u2013 one of four Australians in the Queen\u2019s Club draw \u2013 is third up on centre court on Monday night in his opening-round encounter with American Michael Russell.<\/p>\n<p>It will be Hewitt\u2019s first match since going down in five sets to France\u2019s Gilles Simon in the opening round of the French Open and the 32-year-old veteran is short on tournament play heading toward Wimbledon which starts in a fortnight.<\/p>\n<p>It will be the third time 2002 Wimbledon champion Hewitt and Russell have met on the ATP Tour, with Hewitt winning both previous encounters.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian has has a great record on the Queen\u2019s Club grass, winning three years in a row from 2000-02 and again in 2006.<\/p>\n<p>Countryman Marinko Matosevic also opens his account on Monday night, taking on Dane Frederik Nielsen.<\/p>\n<p>If Matosevic can make the third round, he is set to face top seed Andy Murray.<\/p>\n<p>Qualifier Samuel Groth will play Czech 12th seed Lukas Rosol, while Bernard Tomic takes on Germany\u2019s Benjamin Becker in the first round on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Groth and Tomic will meet each other in the second round if they can get past their first-round opponents.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Casey Dellacqua has qualified for the main draw of the WTA grasscourt event in Birmingham.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian straight-setted Russia\u2019s Vera Dushevina and Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia in qualifying to set up an opening round match with Slovak former world No.5 Daniela Hantuchova.<\/p>\n<p>Dellacqua made the third round of the Birmingham tournament in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Four-time champion Lleyton Hewitt will be aiming for a much-needed run of matches when he begins his 13th Queen\u2019s Club tennis tournament.
