{"id":6320,"date":"2013-05-21T13:34:29","date_gmt":"2013-05-21T05:34:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=6320"},"modified":"2013-05-21T13:34:29","modified_gmt":"2013-05-21T05:34:29","slug":"aussies-aplenty-in-roland-garros-qualifying","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2013\/05\/21\/aussies-aplenty-in-roland-garros-qualifying","title":{"rendered":"Aussies aplenty in Roland Garros qualifying"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2013\/05\/21\/aussies-aplenty-in-roland-garros-qualifying\/attachment\/ebden-460x306\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6321\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-6321\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/files\/2013\/05\/Ebden-460x306-410x272.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"410\" height=\"272\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A six-strong Australian contingent will take to the red clay of Roland Garros in a bid to qualify for the main draw of the French Open.<\/p>\n<p>The highest-ranked of the group is Matt Ebden, seeded 16th in the draw.<\/p>\n<p>The Western Australian will take on Konstantin Kravchuk of Russia in his opening match, hoping to maintain the form that has seen him reach three consecutive ATP Challenger quarterfinals in Asia in the past month.<\/p>\n<p>Ebden sits in the bottom quarter of the 128-player draw, along with compatriots James Duckworth and Alex Bolt.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Roland Garros men's qualifying\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rolandgarros.com\/en_FR\/scores\/draws\/qs\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">&gt; check out the full Roland Garros men\u2019s qualifying draw<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In a bittersweet scenario, the pair have been drawn to face one another in the first round, guaranteeing the presence of at least one Aussie in the second round.<\/p>\n<p>Duckworth has been enjoying fine form on clay of late, hitting the South American circuit and reaching the semifinals at the Rio Quente Challenger and quarters at the Santos Challenger (both in Brazil).<\/p>\n<p>In between those events, he captured an ITF Futures title in Chile, and in the past fortnight has risen 33 ranking spots to world No.185.<\/p>\n<p>In the second quarter of the draw\u2019s top half, Matthew Barton has drawn China\u2019s Di Wu in his first match.<\/p>\n<p>Barton\u2019s clay court record in 2013 stands at a lean 1-4, and he\u2019ll be hoping to improve that against a player ranked 46 places above him at No.161.<\/p>\n<p>Also in Barton\u2019s quarter are Aussies Matt Reid and Sam Groth.<\/p>\n<p>Reid will tackle Italy\u2019s Gianluca Naso first up while Groth will take on Farrukh Dustov, a representative of the Uzbekistan Davis Cup team that recently lost to Australia in the Asia\/Oceania Zone I second round.<\/p>\n<p>French Open men\u2019s qualifying will commence on Tuesday night AEST, with the women\u2019s qualifying event to begin the following evening (AEST).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A six-strong Australian contingent will take to the red clay of Roland Garros in a bid to qualify for the main draw of the French Open.
