Australian Fed Cup captain Alicia Molik is confident her team can cause some serious damage when it takes its place in the World Group in 2014.<\/p>\n

Australia retained its spot in the elite eight-nation group after beating Switzerland 3-1 in its World Group Play-off tie on Monday night AEST, and after years of battling to reach this level, has no plans of relinquishing its position.<\/p>\n

Molik showed faith in the squad \u2013 Sam Stosur, Jarmila Gajdosova, Casey Dellacqua and Ash Barty \u2013 that fell to the Czech Republic 4-0 in the World Group first round tie in February, and was vindicated when the team swept to victory at Tennis Club Chiasso.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis team is too good not to be in the World Group and I really believe we\u2019ve got the team to beat the top nations in the world in tennis,\u201d Molik said following the win.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were very close I thought to beating the Czechs in Ostrava \u2026 we\u2019ve got the quality of players to beat nations like that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aussie No.1 Sam Stosur, who won both her singles rubbers to help her team to victory, agreed with Molik\u2019s assessment.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we deserve to be in the World Group, and for the last probably four or five years we\u2019ve been really trying to push hard to get in there and now it\u2019s just a matter of trying to stay in there,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201c(For the) first tie next year, hopefully we can get a nice draw and have a good week and get through one of these matches, and not have to play this in-between (World Group Play-off tie) this time next year.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
