{"id":3815,"date":"2012-02-06T11:10:57","date_gmt":"2012-02-06T03:10:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=3815"},"modified":"2012-02-06T11:10:57","modified_gmt":"2012-02-06T03:10:57","slug":"australia-win-4-1-in-switzerland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2012\/02\/06\/australia-win-4-1-in-switzerland","title":{"rendered":"Australia win 4-1 in Switzerland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Australian Fed Cup team will progress to the <strong>Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group II Play-off<\/strong> tie in April after defeating Switzerland 4-1 in Fribourg today.<\/p>\n<p>After being drawn 1-1<strong> <\/strong>yesterday,\u00a0 world No.5 <strong>Samantha Stosur<\/strong> picked up her second win of the weekend with a comfortable 6-3 6-2 victory over Switzerland\u2019s No.1 <strong>Stefanie Voegele<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The US Open champion took just over an hour to see off the challenge and was much happy with today\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am much happier with the way I played today,\u201d Stosur said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought I played a really good match from start to finish and controlled what I could control and did what I wanted to do so today, I would say, I am very pleased with the way I played and I got the result I wanted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI played with a better attitude and more confidence today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the reverse singles No.40 <strong>Jarmila Gajdosova<\/strong> took nearly two-and-a-half hours to battle past No. 219 <strong>Amra Sadikovic<\/strong> 6-3 3-6 8-6.\u00a0 Sadikovic was a late replacement for <strong>Timea Bacsinszky<\/strong> who played in the singles yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Gajdosova win clinched the Fed Cup World Group II tie against Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p>Post match she said \u201cI was just trying to play point by point and if it was 8-6 that doesn\u2019t really matter to me as long as I win the last point and we did so I am happy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI tried, I fought and I won in the end.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Australian Fed Cup Captain, David Taylor <\/strong>said he was happy with Jarka\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Jarka, you couldn\u2019t have written a better script of redemption,\u201d Taylor said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe had a really tough lost yesterday and didn\u2019t play the tennis she is capable of but still almost won and was just emotionally better today.\u00a0 I think she learnt the lesson very quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jelena Dokic <\/strong>(No.67) and <strong>Casey Dellacqua <\/strong>(No.103) capped the day off with a win in the doubles against No.219 Sadikovic and No.1061 <strong>Belinda Bencic<\/strong> 7-5 6-4.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday <strong>Stosur <\/strong>open proceedings on the coldest day in 30 years in Fribourg with a 6-2 7-5 win over Switzerland\u2019s No.2 <strong>Bacsinszky.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the second match at the Forum Fribourg <strong>Voegele<\/strong>, who was leading Switzerland for the first time following the retirement of Patty Schnyder, upset Australian\u2019s No.2 <strong>Gajdosova<\/strong> 6-0 6-7(8) 8-6.<\/p>\n<p>The Australians will\u00a0be looking to return to the World Group in 2013 with a win on the 21 and 22 April to re-instate them in the elite\u00a0eight.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Australian Fed Cup team will progress to the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group II Play-off tie in April after defeating Switzerland 4-1 in Fribourg today.
