The crowd were electrifyingly vocal, with Austraian\u00a0and\u00a0custom chants bellowing throughout the\u00a0packed Margaret Arena crowd.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0&#8220;[I] tried not to overrate it coming into here,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[I was] just doing my thing, enjoying myself, keeping it pretty simple and low-key, just keeping my focus. [I\u2019m] not too fussed and worried about all the other stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, I was very happy,\u201d Ebden said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think I served well, returned very well, put a lot of pressure on [Souza], created a lot of chances to break.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think I&#8217;ve shown, in the last year or two, I&#8217;ve shown myself and my team where I can belong in world tennis [and] the level I can play at,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[I\u2019m] confident that I&#8217;m moving in the right direction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ebden will play 24th seed Kei Nishikori in the second round on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Ebden will join fellow West Australian Casey Dellacqua in the 2nd round, with co-patriot Bojana Bobusic going down to Angelique Kerber\u00a0 in straight sets this afternoon.
