The Brikmakers State Tennis League kicked off on Saturday with 8 Men\u2019s teams and 6 Women\u2019s teams flocking to the State Tennis Centre to launch the opening round of the season.<\/p>\n
Australia\u2019s number 2 and the world\u2019s number 80 made a starring appearance taking on last year\u2019s Premiers Hensman Park and matching up against their number one, Miles Armstrong. Ebden took an early lead and dictated play from the first to last ball. He managed to shut down Armstrong\u2019s rocket serve and take first set 6-1. Ebden came out firing in the 2nd<\/sup> set to take a 4-love lead before play was suspended due to rain.<\/p>\n In the women\u2019s, Williams local Jessica Moore debuted for City Beach, knocking out Caitlin Cridland in straight sets.<\/p>\n Despite thE standard of play and the atmosphere at the State Tennis Centre, unfortunately there was no stopping the rain. The rain crept in just after 3.30pm where play was postponed, before the call was made at 5pm to cancel play for the day.<\/p>\n In the Juniors Blockbuster the following day, the level of play was remarkable. The stars of tomorrow really stood up and put on a stellar display of competitive tennis in front of a healthy crowd. Hensman Park\u2019s young gun Rhys Johnson, starred in both the Seniors and Juniors Blockbusters. The 16 year old disposing of Wembley Downs Craig Campbell in the seniors before beating Dalkeith\u2019s Linus Goh in straight sets 7-5, 6-4 in the juniors on Sunday. A total of 5 girl\u2019s teams and 9 boy\u2019s team make up the Junior State League competition, with Bunbury Tennis Club joining the boy\u2019s competition for the first time this year.<\/p>\n Thank you to all who attended, the coordinators, supporters and players.
