The winter\u00a0weather was no problem for the\u00a0record number of entries to the three July school holiday tournaments held at the State Tennis Centre and Mt Lawley Tennis Club.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Across the three tournaments held during the Term 2 school holidays, a total of 534 players entered, up from 521 last year.\u00a0The\u00a0Mt\u00a0Lawley\u00a0Junior Hardcourt Classic\u00a0saw the most entries with 211 up from 202 last year.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the\u00a0Open\u00a0State Hardcourt tournament\u00a0held from the 10<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0\u2013 14<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0July\u00a0held at the State Tennis Centre, there was a considerable uplift in quality in the open field of the tournament. It was great to see\u00a0engagement from some of the\u00a0top WA players in the mixed doubles event with four\u00a0pairs competing\u00a0with the winners being Trevor Eastwood and Isabelle Criddle.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the men\u2019s and women\u2019s open singles\u00a0final\u00a0Lincoln Duckett defeated Brendan Jayaprakash 2-6 6-3 10-6 in a match tie-break while Sunny Youn was too good for Charlotte Mweemba 6-1 6-2.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The State Tennis Centre was host to the Perth Hardcourt Championships from the 15<\/span>th<\/span>– 19<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0July which saw a total of 128 players across 14 events from ages 12 to 16. A highlight of the tournament was a match point saving rally in the Boy\u2019s\u00a0U12\u2019s\u00a0doubles final that lasted for over eight minutes and saw a total rally of 216 shots (yes, we counted every shot).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It was a credit to all tournament players and\u00a0organisers\u00a0for completing a total of 829 matches across the three tournaments with rain affected days and\u00a0some unusually warmer than\u00a0average\u00a0warm winter weather.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
