Returning to the stunning Optus Stadium for the second year in a row, the Tennis West Awards Night presented by Theme Group proved to be a hit, with record numbers and plenty of winners.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Tennis West Awards Night\u00a0presented by Theme Group\u00a0is Tennis West\u2019s prestigious event that celebrated and recognised the outstanding achievements of our state\u2019s junior and senior players, clubs, coaches, schools, volunteers,\u00a0officials\u00a0and administrators of our sport.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0night,\u00a0attracted over 360 guests, who were treated to drinks on the Champions Terrace before heading into the Riverview Room for a sit down three course meal and awards presentation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The night was highlighted by the inductions of Siobhan Drake-Brockman and Max Bonner into the Hall of Champions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Hall of Champions induction was presented by Chair of the Tennis West Hall of Champions Committee, Pam Brand.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pam Brand also delivered a moving tribute to the late Dr Harry Phillips, a man who made a massive contribution to tennis in WA.<\/p>\n

The night also saw Shane Smedley inducted into the Tennis Seniors WA Hall of Fame presented by Tennis Seniors WA\u00a0President and good friend Aldis Purins.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Shane\u2019s dedication and passion\u00a0for tennis\u00a0have\u00a0made a lasting and profound impact both on and off the court,\u00a0representing\u00a0Australia in\u00a0masters’\u00a0tournaments while also\u00a0establishing\u00a0the Applecross\u00a0Senior High School Special Tennis Program and coaching the WA Pizzey Cup Teams.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Talia Gibson took out the top honours on the night, winning the Pro Player of the Year Award. Talia\u2019s mother Lee Gibson accepted the award on her behalf and delivered a wonderful acceptance speech.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Gibson\u00a0moved into the top 100 for the first time and achieved a career high singles rank of 56 making the quarter finals of Indian Wells Masters. Her wins in Indian Wells included victory over Italian Jasmine Paolini, making it her first top 10 win of her career and making her a fitting winner of the award.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Regional clubs were well represented on the night with five award winners or winning clubs reigning from\u00a0country\u00a0WA. A highlight was Graham\u00a0\u2018Johnno\u2019 Johnson\u00a0from Dandaragan Tennis Club receiving the Current Electrical Service to Tennis Award.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Kendenup\u00a0Tennis Club took out the Healthway Most Outstanding Small Club while Alexander Park\u00a0Tennis Club\u00a0was\u00a0rewarded after a strong year as a club with growth in participation and\u00a0a strong community connection winning the Healthway Most Outstanding Large Club.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Introduced for the first time, the Theme Group Most Outstanding Athlete with a Disability award was won by Safety Bay\u2019s Wayne Arnott after an exceptional year\u00a0across many competitions and tournaments.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
