The Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s State League Most Valuable Players have been confirmed with Max Weir (Cottesloe) and\u00a0Elena\u00a0Manoj (Cottesloe) both winning the award after dominant seasons.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The pair were two of a very few to have won all their singles matches throughout the season. For Elena Manoj, it was a breakout season which began before the State League season started, winning the WA Junior ITF International #2 singles title, the J125 WA State Hardcourt,\u00a0the singles Champion of Champions and was\u00a0a semifinalist in the WA Open.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Similarly, Cottesloe\u2019s Max Weir also won the men\u2019s singles\u00a0Champion of Champions\u00a0Event back in April last year.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Manoj was outstanding all season, showing her incredible consistency in singles. Manoj defeated\u00a0the likes of Sumner Royall, Tara Aleksic and Amy Findlay as well as experienced past State League MVP\u2019s Lauren Nikoloski and Ella Nurkic. Manoj also regularly played in the number one and two\u00a0positions\u00a0coming up against the best.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Her form in the doubles was also impressive, winning five rubbers and only losing two. While it\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0count towards her MVP title, Manoj carried her form into the finals,\u00a0defeating Royal Kings Park\u2019s Sumner Royall in the final in three sets\u00a0and helping secure the title for Cottesloe.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Max Weir was a clear standout in the Men\u2019s State League, winning seven singles ties over the course of the season.\u00a0Weir defeated players like Ben Galvao, Zach Itzstein, Casey\u00a0Ambler\u00a0and Lincoln Duckett regularly playing the two and three\u00a0positions\u00a0for Cottesloe.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A key to Weir\u2019s success was his all round game, showing he was also dominant in doubles, winning all seven of his doubles ties throughout the season, this form helped his Cottesloe side drop only one game throughout\u00a0the home and away season and\u00a0earn a home final, unfortunately going down in the final to Claremont.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Other players who impressed this season were Mt Lawley\u2019s Reuben Giorgio who went through with a 6-2 win-loss singles record while\u00a0Claremont’s\u00a0Tim Gray\u00a0was 5-2 in the home and away season but delivered his most important win in the final, defeating\u00a0the MVP Max Weir in a match tie-break.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the women\u2019s,\u00a0Cottesloe\u00a0showed why they were the most dominant team all season with Alicia Molik going undefeated all season with a 3-0 win-loss record while Jess Culley\u00a0won six out of eight singles matches.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
