After\u00a011 weeks\u00a0of competition, we are down to two teams in each of the men\u2019s and women\u2019s competition ready to battle it out for the State League title.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a rare treat for State League fans, both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s State League final will be held concurrently on the grass courts of Cottesloe Tennis Club\u00a0from 12.30 pm\u00a0this Saturday.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After making the grand final last season, Cottesloe will be looking to go one better, buoyed by a home ground advantage after a strong and consistent season.\u00a0The Cottesloe side\u00a0has\u00a0been clinical this season, only dropping one match\u00a0which happened to be against Royal Kings Park.\u00a0But with a big crowd expected, will it be\u00a0an advantage\u00a0to Cottesloe?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Royal Kings Park will go into the clash with confidence having knocked off Cottesloe on their home ground in round 10 in a tight battle that came down to sets.\u00a0The visitors are also on a\u00a0five-match\u00a0winning streak, having not lost a match since round five in November.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The match could go either way with three of the\u00a0four singles rubbers in round 10 going to three sets. The only change\u00a0may be the inclusion of captain Alicia Molik\u00a0to the side. Molik has played four matches this season and has a\u00a0100% win\u00a0rate in singles matches.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Joining Molik\u00a0in\u00a0the expected side is youngster\u00a0Elena Manoj. Manoj is yet to lose a match this season\u00a0and\u00a0will be hard to stop.\u00a0Both times this season, Manoj has played Jasmin\u00a0Heapes\u00a0and won both encounters.\u00a0Jess Culley and Nisha Whittome will also play a part in the chase for a title with one of the two to take the last singles position.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The big battle could potentially be Lexie Weir (Cottesloe) and Royal Kings Park captain Mahta Khanloo. Both have been playing in the number one\u00a0position\u00a0and Khanloo\u00a0has got\u00a0the better of Weir in their round 10 clash. Khanloo has the best win-loss record in the team, having won five of her six singles matches this season.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Flying under the radar for Royal Kings Park will be\u00a0rising stars Claudia Shearwood and Sumner\u00a0Royall\u00a0who\u00a0have both won their fair share of singles matches this season. Where they play will be a key to the matchup.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If the matches go to doubles, expect Cottesloe to have the slight advantage. The home side has a\u00a0stronger\u00a0record in doubles ties this season, with an 11-4 win-loss record while Royal Kings Park has\u00a0a\u00a08-6 win-loss record.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This contest is set to be a cracker and\u00a0almost a\u00a0rematch of last season\u00a0when Peppermint Grove\u00a0upset Cottesloe at home. From last year\u2019s Peppermint Grove side,\u00a0Tim Gray,\u00a0Jayden\u00a0Court\u00a0and Ethan Cook all look likely to front up for the Claremont side, while Cottesloe will\u00a0most likely feature\u00a0newcomers Robin Eldin and youngster Sehun Park.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cottesloe are no strangers to\u00a0home finals on their own turf.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0the fourth consecutive home final appearance for Cottesloe\u00a0and while they\u00a0couldn\u2019t\u00a0win last season, they\u00a0won\u00a0the two\u00a0previous\u00a0finals.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Home ground advantage could play a huge part in this fixture as Claremont are yet to win a\u00a0tie on\u00a0grass courts. The away team is 0-3 in grass court matches while Cottesloe, who prefer the grass\u00a0courts\u00a0have won seven matches this season without a loss on grass courts.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In their\u00a0previous\u00a0encounter\u00a0with Claremont this season, it was Cottesloe that came up as victors\u00a04-2. Robin\u00a0Eldin\u00a0(Cottesloe)\u00a0defeated Jayden Court\u00a0(Claremont)\u00a0in straight while Hans Bustiman (Claremont) and Tim Gray\u00a0(Claremont) were victorious against Ben Webster and Adam Kehane.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The form player is Cottesloe captain Max Weir who goes into the match as the only player yet to lose a singles match this season. Cottesloe will be relying on Weir to\u00a0get the win in his rubber as Claremont will have incredible depth if they play their\u00a0full-strength\u00a0side.\u00a0For\u00a0Claremont,\u00a0the strength will come from Ethan Cook (5-1 win-loss record)\u00a0and Tim Gray (6-1) and Hans Bustiman (7-3) who\u00a0all have\u00a0been dominant throughout this season.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If it comes down to doubles, expect Adam Kehane (Cottesloe) and Sam Ashenden (Claremont) to feature heavily. The Cottesloe side has been impressive in doubles, winning 11 matches and only losing three while Claremont have a doubles win-loss record of 11-9.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Claremont are looking to win their first Men\u2019s State League title since 1974-75 while Cottesloe are looking for revenge after last\u00a0season’s\u00a0loss.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
