The West Australian tennis community tennis community is celebrating its outstanding players and volunteers as nominees and finalists for the prestigious 2025 Newcombe Medal, Australian Tennis Awards.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

[100] Tristan\u00a0Schoolkate\u00a0(WA)<\/span><\/b>\u00a0has been nominated for the 2025 Newcombe Medal, awarded annually to the nation\u2019s most outstanding player and ambassador for the sport.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tristan\u00a0Schoolkate\u00a0has enjoyed a breakout 2025 season, winning ATP Challenger titles in Brisbane and on the grass courts of Ilkley, a run that lifted him into the world\u2019s top 100 for the first time. His strong form earned him main-draw wildcards into both Roland Garros and the US Open, adding to an impressive Australian Open campaign where he defeated Taro Daniel before pushing world No. 1 Jannik Sinner. Steadily rising in confidence and consistency, the Western Australian has firmly\u00a0established\u00a0himself as one of Australia\u2019s most promising emerging talents on the ATP Tour.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Seven-time Grand Slam singles champion John Newcombe will present the award named in his\u00a0honour\u00a0at the 15th annual Newcombe Medal, Australian Tennis Awards held at Palladium Crown in Melbourne on Monday 8 December.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis year\u2019s Newcombe Medal nominees represent the very best of Australian tennis \u2013 athletes who have not only achieved incredible results on the world stage, but who also embody the values of perseverance, sportsmanship and national pride,\u201d Newcombe said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

WA is also proud if\u00a0its\u00a0remarkable line up of grassroots tennis leaders,\u00a0in particular in\u00a0our regional areas with\u00a0Merredin\u00a0Tennis Club\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Michelle (Meg) Gethin<\/span><\/b>\u00a0announced as a finalist in the Volunteer Achievement Award for the\u00a02025 Newcombe Medal Australian Tennis Awards.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This comes after Michelle Gethin won the Service to Tennis Award at the 2025 Tennis West Awards Night in May.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Through Michelle\u2019s various roles as Secretary, Treasurer, Junior Coordinator, Coach, and\u00a0<\/span>Central\u00a0Districts\u00a0Tennis\u00a0Association (CDTA)\u00a0<\/span>Board Member, Michelle has\u00a0demonstrated\u00a0exceptional leadership over the past 18 years through her extensive involvement with the\u00a0Merredin\u00a0District Lawn Tennis Club, the CDTA, and more recently, the newly formed\u00a0Merredin\u00a0Tennis Club.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Michelle\u2019s tireless advocacy, inclusive programs, and strategic leadership have created a lasting ripple effect that continues to strengthen tennis in the region.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Australian Tennis Awards highlight the extraordinary efforts in both participation and performance across\u00a0Australia\u00a0and the essential role local communities play in making tennis accessible to all.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Newcombe Medal, the highest individual honour in Australian tennis, is awarded annually to the nation\u2019s most outstanding elite player and ambassador for the sport.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The award is named after the legendary John Newcombe, whose enduring legacy continues to inspire generations. A former world No.1, Newcombe amassed 26 Grand Slam titles, including seven in singles, and competed in five victorious Australian Davis Cup teams.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Newcombe also captained the Australian Davis Cup team for seven years, guiding them to a memorable win in 1999.
