{"id":21376,"date":"2025-11-07T09:30:57","date_gmt":"2025-11-07T01:30:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=21376"},"modified":"2025-11-07T09:31:14","modified_gmt":"2025-11-07T01:31:14","slug":"talia-gibson-named-in-australias-billie-jean-king-cup-side-for-hobart-play-offs-next-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2025\/11\/07\/talia-gibson-named-in-australias-billie-jean-king-cup-side-for-hobart-play-offs-next-week","title":{"rendered":"Talia Gibson named in Australia\u2019s Billie Jean King Cup side for Hobart Play-offs next week"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>West Aussie rising star Talia Gibson\u00a0has been named in the Culture Amp Australian Billie Jean King Cup team for the upcoming Play-offs in Hobart next week after Priscilla Hon was forced to\u00a0withdraw due to injury.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gibson, 21 and ranked world No.137,\u00a0has\u00a0notched several milestones over the past 12 months.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She won her first Grand Slam main-draw match at Australian Open 2025, beating her first\u00a0top-100\u00a0opponent in the process.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She later qualified for the main draw at Wimbledon, won the equal-biggest title of her career at the W75 tournament in Granby, and reached the second round of the WTA Cleveland event as a qualifier.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>These performances helped boost her to a career-high ranking of world No.105 in August.<\/p>\n<p>Gibson said she\u00a0is\u00a0honoured to receive the call\u00a0up and\u00a0is\u00a0thrilled to\u00a0represent\u00a0Australia for the first time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s\u00a0super exciting.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0something that\u00a0I&#8217;ve\u00a0really wanted to do for so long and something that has always been a goal of\u00a0mine. It was\u00a0very exciting\u00a0to get the call up to be on the team,\u201d Gibson said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;ve\u00a0literally been\u00a0watching Billie Jean King Cup\u00a0every year.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0always something that I make sure I sit down and watch and support the girls, and to be on the team this time and be able to support everyone will be very special.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Captain\u00a0<strong>Nicole Pratt<\/strong>\u00a0said Gibson\u2019s inclusion\u00a0is\u00a0a welcome addition to the team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a fantastic opportunity for Talia\u00a0who\u2019s\u00a0been knocking on the door of the top 100 for a while now, and it\u00a0won\u2019t\u00a0be long until she reaches that benchmark,\u201d Pratt said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s\u00a0had some impressive results over the past 12 months, and her improved consistency throughout the year has been\u00a0very positive\u00a0and\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0thrilled to welcome her into the team and give her the chance to experience\u00a0representing\u00a0Australia on home soil.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d\u00a0also like to wish Priscilla all the best for a speedy recovery from injury.\u00a0She\u2019s\u00a0had an amazing year and although I know how disappointed she is to miss this tie, we look forward to seeing her come back strongly for the summer of tennis.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Gibson joins\u00a0<strong>Maya Joint<\/strong>,<strong>\u00a0Kimberly Birrell,\u00a0Storm\u00a0Hunter\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Ellen Perez<\/strong>\u00a0in the Australian team for the Play-offs against Portugal and Brazil at the Domain Tennis Centre from 14 to 16 November 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Australia will face Portugal on Friday 14 November and Brazil on Sunday 16 November, with each tie featuring two singles matches and a doubles match.
