{"id":21159,"date":"2025-08-22T06:54:03","date_gmt":"2025-08-21T22:54:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=21159"},"modified":"2025-08-22T06:54:26","modified_gmt":"2025-08-21T22:54:26","slug":"gibson-and-schoolkate-learn-their-us-open-draw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2025\/08\/22\/gibson-and-schoolkate-learn-their-us-open-draw","title":{"rendered":"Gibson and Schoolkate Learn Their US Open Draw"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The path to US Open glory for Talia Gibson and Tristian Schoolkate, among 11 other Aussies has been revealed.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Alex de Minaur is presented with a prime opportunity to reach his maiden Grand Slam semifinal \u2013 although there\u2019s a bittersweet start to a ninth Flushing Meadows campaign for the Australian No.1, with De Minaur drawn to face countryman Chris O\u2019Connell in his opening match.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 26-year-old De Minaur has been among the game\u2019s most consistent Grand Slam performers in recent years, reaching the fourth round or better at seven of the last eight majors.<\/p>\n<p>Between Roland Garros 2024 and Australian Open 2025, De Minaur advanced to the quarterfinals, with his Wimbledon 2024 encounter against Novak Djokovic ending before it started when he was forced to withdraw with a hip injury.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The US Open 2024 quarterfinalist believes now is his time to make a final four breakthrough.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve got the experience now. I\u2019ve got the knowledge, the physicality side of things. Everything is just there for me to go out and perform,\u201d De Minaur recently told\u00a0<em>ATPTour.com<\/em>. \u201cI can really have a swing these next three or four years and really show that I\u2019m at my peak and break through some barriers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI knew it would be important to put myself in a good position for the back end of the year when I have little to defend, giving hope that I could gain some serious points and momentum and build on the ranking. So going into the tail end of the year, I\u2019m excited for the opportunity and hoping I can play good tennis and take care of my chances.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Arriving in New York as the No.8 seed, De Minaur has a favourable draw. Should he progress past O\u2019Connell, the Sydneysider ill not face a top-eight opponent until the quarterfinals \u2013 expected to be Alexander Zverev.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After winning the Washington Open last month, De Minaur has form on his side.
