{"id":21037,"date":"2025-06-16T09:01:44","date_gmt":"2025-06-16T01:01:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=21037"},"modified":"2025-06-16T11:26:28","modified_gmt":"2025-06-16T03:26:28","slug":"aussie-powerhouses-ebden-and-thompson-win-s-hertogenbosch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2025\/06\/16\/aussie-powerhouses-ebden-and-thompson-win-s-hertogenbosch","title":{"rendered":"Aussie powerhouses Ebden and Thompson win \u2018s-Hertogenbosch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>In their first tournament week together, Matt Ebden and Jordan Thompson tasted immediate success.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Australians claimed the ATP 250 grasscourt title in \u2018s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, winning the weekend\u2019s final 6-4 3-6 [10-7] over Brits Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool.<\/p>\n<p>Their success should come as no shock, given their prowess on grass and in the tandem form of the game \u2013 plus the fact they teamed to win a doubles rubber for Australia at last year\u2019s Davis Cup Finals.<\/p>\n<p>Ebden is a Wimbledon doubles champion (2022) and Thompson is a finalist (2024) \u2013 both results achieved alongside countryman Max Purcell \u2013 while Thompson, the reigning US Open doubles champion, also has a history of singles success at \u2018s-Hertogenbosch as a two-time finalist.<\/p>\n<p>Thompson held two match points in his second-round singles match against Gabriel Diallo, who escaped to win in three sets before going all the way to the title on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>His doubles triumph with Ebden helped soothe the disappointment of that result.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a great week,\u201d Thompson told atptour.com. \u201cFor me, I had a tough one in singles. Second round, and I lost two match points, but it was a great opportunity for me to get back out on the doubles court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlaying with Matt, we gel well together. We play Davis Cup together, so it\u2019s enjoyable to play with each other. Hopefully it\u2019s building for next week at Queen\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ebden and Thompson have a tough task at Queen\u2019s this week, in the first round drawing No.2 seeds Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten \u2013 the duo that denied Thompson in last year\u2019s Wimbledon final.<\/p>\n<p>Thompson and Ebden are one of two all-Aussie pairs in the Queen\u2019s doubles field, along with Alex de Minaur and Alexei Popyrin.<\/p>\n<p>Five Aussies \u2013 De Minaur, Popyrin and Thompson, plus qualifiers Aleksandar Vukic and Alex Bolt \u2013 will represent the green-and-gold in the singles draw.<\/p>\n<p>Ebden, projected to return to the ATP doubles top 40 thanks to his \u2018s-Hertogenbosch victory with Thompson, described the result as \u201cawesome\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEspecially playing out there with a fellow Aussie, we\u2019ve shared a lot together over the years, and in Davis Cup particularly,\u201d said Ebden, who also won the Australian Open 2024 doubles crown with Rohan Bopanna.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo bring that on the tour and make a great start here with a title, we couldn\u2019t ask for more.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In their first tournament week together, Matt Ebden and Jordan Thompson tasted immediate success.
