{"id":20531,"date":"2025-01-29T03:40:59","date_gmt":"2025-01-28T19:40:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=20531"},"modified":"2025-01-29T03:41:40","modified_gmt":"2025-01-28T19:41:40","slug":"west-aussies-ebden-and-peers-awarded-order-of-australia-medals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2025\/01\/29\/west-aussies-ebden-and-peers-awarded-order-of-australia-medals","title":{"rendered":"West Aussies Ebden and Peers Awarded Order of Australia Medals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Olympic gold medal duo Matt Ebden and John Peers have been recognised with Order of Australia medals (OAM) at the 2025 Australia Day Honours ceremony.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ebden and Peers were bestowed the honour for their service to sport after winning gold in the men\u2019s doubles at the Paris 2024 Olympics \u2013 Australia\u2019s first tennis gold medal since Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde won the men\u2019s doubles at Atlanta 1996.<\/p>\n<p>Last January, Ebden paired with Rohan Bopanna to win his second Grand Slam doubles title at Australian Open 2024, a feat that propelled him to world No.1 a month later.<\/p>\n<p>The 37-year-old Ebden made his second appearance at the ATP Finals in November and was awarded Australian tennis\u2019 highest honour, the Newcombe Medal, alongside Alex de Minaur in December.<\/p>\n<p>John Peers finished 2024 on a high and has carried that form into the new year.
