{"id":19729,"date":"2024-06-26T11:47:01","date_gmt":"2024-06-26T03:47:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=19729"},"modified":"2024-06-26T13:34:37","modified_gmt":"2024-06-26T05:34:37","slug":"record-milestone-results-for-wa-women-in-qualifying-at-wimbledon-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2024\/06\/26\/record-milestone-results-for-wa-women-in-qualifying-at-wimbledon-2024","title":{"rendered":"Record Milestone Results for WA Women in Qualifying at Wimbledon 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>WA&#8217;s Talia Gibson and Maddison Inglis have progressed to the second round in the Wimbledon 2024 women&#8217;s qualifying singles competition.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Talia Gibson, a fellow National Tennis Academy athlete who turned 20 earlier this month, scored the biggest win of her career to progress to the second round.<\/p>\n<p>The Perth talent\u2019s 6-3 6-1 triumph against Croatian Jana Fett marked her first victory against a top-120 player.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m super stoked,\u201d world No.178 Gibson said after beating an opponent ranked 61 places higher.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just really happy to be here. It\u2019s my first time playing Wimbledon, so super excited to be through to the next round.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gibson\u2019s victory sets up an all-Australian showdown, with Destanee Aiava awaiting in the second round.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know, it is what it is,\u201d Gibson said after learning she would face a fellow Aussie in her next match. \u201cIt\u2019s great we\u2019ve both through to the second round.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve played Destanee a couple of times before. She\u2019s got a really great game and it\u2019s going to be especially hard on grass, but I\u2019m looking forward to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maddison Inglis also progressed through to the second round with a win of Sara Bejlek (CZE).
