{"id":19513,"date":"2024-05-14T14:12:45","date_gmt":"2024-05-14T06:12:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=19513"},"modified":"2024-05-14T14:13:02","modified_gmt":"2024-05-14T06:13:02","slug":"was-cam-burton-named-in-2024-junior-davis-cup-australian-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2024\/05\/14\/was-cam-burton-named-in-2024-junior-davis-cup-australian-team","title":{"rendered":"WA&#8217;s Cam Burton Named in 2024 Junior Davis Cup Australian Team"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Australian 16-and-under teams set to compete at Junior Billie Jean King Cup and Junior Davis Cup Asia-Oceania qualifying events in Kazakhstan this month have been named with WA&#8217;s Cam Burton named in the Junior Davis Cup team.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>Burton will be joined in the green and gold by Jeffrey Strydom (SA) and Cruz Hewitt (NSW), the 15-year-old son of former world No.1 and current Australian Davis Cup captain Lleyton Hewitt.<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Cam Burton says he is excited and proud to represent Australia and compete in Kazakhstan.<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u2060&#8221;I\u2019m looking forward to wearing the green and gold and being part of the atmosphere. I expect it will be a massive event with ceremonies and traditions, including some famous players from the past.&#8221;<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u2060&#8221;I am hoping, with a good draw, the team can qualify for the finals later in the year. \u2060The preparation for this event has been brief but tough.&#8221;<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8220;I train with my coaches, Strahinja Bobusic and Mitch Pleydell, and compete all year round so I\u2019m prepared for these opportunities,&#8221; said Cam.<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Sandon Stolle, a former world No.2 in doubles and Davis Cup representative for Australia, is the captain of the boys\u2019 team.<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI look forward to taking my first Junior Davis Cup team away and to continue supporting our high performing athletes,\u201d said Stolle, Tennis Australia\u2019s National Development Squad Coach in South Australia.<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt\u2019s a great experience for these young guys to play for Australia and be part of the green and gold history of tennis.\u201d<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThese competitions provide a stage for the world\u2019s best 16-and-under players to experience playing as part of a team and representing their nation,\u201d said Rohan Fisher, Tennis Australia\u2019s Manager for Tours, Camps and College.<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cCongratulations to the players selected to represent Australia, we have no doubt they\u2019ll wear the green and gold with pride and make us proud,\u201d said Rohan.<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Junior Davis Cup qualifying event runs from 20-25 May.
