{"id":19235,"date":"2024-01-22T00:29:19","date_gmt":"2024-01-21T16:29:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=19235"},"modified":"2024-01-22T00:29:46","modified_gmt":"2024-01-21T16:29:46","slug":"hunter-and-ebden-headline-day-nine-at-australian-open-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2024\/01\/22\/hunter-and-ebden-headline-day-nine-at-australian-open-2024","title":{"rendered":"Hunter and Ebden Headline Day Nine at Australian Open 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>West Australian&#8217;s Storm Hunter and Matt Ebden are among 20 Aussies scheduled to compete on day nine at Australian Open 2024.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An all-Australian mixed doubles showdown is on the schedule on day nine at Australian Open 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Top seeds Storm Hunter and Matt Ebden take on wildcards Jaimee Fourlis and Andrew Harris in second-round action at Court 3 this evening.<\/p>\n<p>They scored a straight-sets win over the reigning Wimbledon champions, Lyudmyla Kichenok and Mate Pavic in the first round.<\/p>\n<p>World No.1 Hunter described the all-Australian meeting as \u201conly a good thing\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll try to get the W, but either way, Aussies are going through,\u201d the 29-year-old said.<\/p>\n<p>World No.4 Ebden, who is also scheduled to play a third round men\u2019s doubles match today, agreed it\u2019s a positive to face compatriots on the Grand Slam stage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe great strength of Australian tennis is shining through,\u201d the 36-year-old said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re Aussies everywhere, so we\u2019re bound to play each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Storm Hunter will also play in the women&#8217;s doubles quarter-final tomorrow with partner Katerina Siniakova.<\/p>\n<p>It is the third consecutive year that Hunter has reached this stage in the Australian Open women\u2019s doubles competition, making her the first Aussie to achieve this feat since Rennae Stubbs in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>World No.1 Hunter and world No.13 Siniakova sealed their progression with a commanding 6-2 6-2 victory against Ekaterina Alexandrova and Anna Kalinskaya at Kia Arena yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>It was a near-perfect match for Hunter and Siniakova, who tallied 28 winners, committed just two unforced errors and conceded only 13 points on serve.<\/p>\n<p>After making slow starts in their opening two rounds, the third seeds required only 71 minutes to triumph in their third-round encounter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re a new partnership, so still working it out on the court,\u201d Hunter said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe most important thing is that we\u2019re really enjoying it and working together as a team.
