We asked Matt what it was like returning this year with his wife Kim and son Harvey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had goosebumps\u201d he said \u201cYou feel triumphant having you name on the board. It was very special to share that with Harvey and to take him back to the cr\u00e8che where he waited while I played the final, showing him the locker room and simply getting his credentials and photo and just seeing how much he has changed in the year. It\u2019s the little things that are important and being a parent you understand that\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We then asked Matt how his preparations are looking leading into the US Open.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am always confident on hardcourt\u201d he said \u201cIt&#8217;s good to have Kim and Harvey with me this year in the US.\u00a0 They didn\u2019t come last year and it was tough for those 6-7 weeks apart.\u00a0 Even though I was playing well I was really depressed and it was very difficult not having them around so I\u2019m grateful for them being with me this year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This years other finalists for the award include NRL stars Daly Cherry-Evans and\u00a0 Clint Gutherson, flying the flag for the AFL this year is Melbourne premiership winning captain Max Gawn\u00a0and Collingwood legend\u00a0Scott Pendlebury, while Wallabies flyer\u00a0Marika Koroibete\u00a0will hope to get plenty of votes from the rugby faithful leading into this years World Cup.\u00a0 Football is represented by the man who became an instant sporting hero to advance Australian into World Cup\u00a0Andrew Redmayne and he teams up with fellow Socceroo Craig Goodwin\u00a0who\u00a0will be looking to add this year\u2019s title as Sports Dad of the Year to his Johnny Warren Medal.
