{"id":18646,"date":"2023-07-18T00:58:41","date_gmt":"2023-07-17T16:58:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=18646"},"modified":"2023-07-18T01:00:05","modified_gmt":"2023-07-17T17:00:05","slug":"winter-school-holidays-event-numbers-up-on-last-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2023\/07\/18\/winter-school-holidays-event-numbers-up-on-last-year","title":{"rendered":"Winter School Holidays Event Numbers up on Last Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The cold winter weather in Perth didn\u2019t affect entries to the winter school holiday tennis events with entries to the four events up from 341 in 2022 to 573 this year.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Kalamunda Winter Junior Tournament had 98 entries, up from 51 in 2022. The event finished inside two days with the third day of competition washed out.<\/p>\n<p>The Mt Lawley Junior Hard Court Classic also increased in numbers from last years event, up by 28 entries from 2022. Again, the winter rain played a part with some matches unable to complete but all main draws were able to be completed.<\/p>\n<p>The O3K J125 STC Open and Junior Event at the State Tennis Centre had 220 entries of which there was some high-quality tennis on show. Players in the open division included State League players and professional ITF players such as Tom Hann, Hans Bustiman, Ashwin Sharma and Aditya Mann. It was great to see these awesome role models handing out signatures to the young juniors during the event.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas Hann was too good for Hans Bustiman in the men\u2019s open final with Hann winning 6-2, 6-1. In the women\u2019s final, Lexie Weir defeated Yelena Kelleher 6-2, 6-0.<\/p>\n<p>The school holidays finished off with the Premier 250 Perth Hardcourt Championships #2 at the State Tennis Centre. The event finished in four days, even while managing to get through some weather delays early in the event.<\/p>\n<p>All singles finals were chair umpired with each final played with high quality tennis.
