They played really, really well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hunter, who was competing in her career-first ladies\u2019 doubles Grand Slam final, had been aiming to snap a 19-year title drought for Australians in the Wimbledon ladies\u2019 doubles competition.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the loss, she was proud of a career-best run.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me, it\u2019s a dream come true to play here on Centre Court in the doubles final,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-standard-landscape wp-image-18639\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/files\/2023\/07\/GettyImages-1536034390-768x512-700x450.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/files\/2023\/07\/GettyImages-1536034390-768x512-700x450.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/files\/2023\/07\/GettyImages-1536034390-768x512-360x230.jpg 360w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/files\/2023\/07\/GettyImages-1536034390-768x512-200x128.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It proved an emotional victory for 37-year-olds Hsieh and Strycova.<\/p>\n<p>Strycova, a former world No.1 doubles player, was\u00a0contesting her first Grand Slam tournament since Australian Open 2021. The mother of one returned to the tour in May, determined to compete at Wimbledon one last time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the perfect way to finish,\u201d she said after winning her second career Grand Slam title.<\/p>\n<p>Strycova won her first at Wimbledon in 2019, also alongside Hsieh.<\/p>\n<p>Hsieh, a former world No.1 coached by Australian legend Paul McNamee, also returned in May from an extended injury time-off.<\/p>\n<p>This is Hsieh\u2019s sixth career Grand Slam doubles title and the second of her stunning comeback, after claiming the Roland Garros crown last month with China\u2019s Wang Xinyu.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Storm Hunter and Belgian partner Elise Mertens have finished runners-up in the Wimbledon 2023 ladies&#8217; doubles competition.
