Tennis continues to grow in WA with a brand-new program that will allow youths the chance to play tennis in a social and fun environment with the launch of SocialStrings.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

SocialStrings is a free 8-week program for 15 \u2013 25-year-olds providing disengaged and disadvantaged young people access to physical activity via modified tennis sessions alongside education and upskilling programs and interwoven into social-connection opportunities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The program will run at two locations in the metro area at Blue Gum Tennis Club and Leederville Tennis Club.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tennis West Government Relations & Project Lead Erin Stinton was excited about the opportunity to engage with young adults and provide a fun, no judgement and flexible program.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have some really great partners at both venues and it\u2019s so much more enjoyable when everyone is on the same page with just one goal in mind, to connect more young people to their community,\u201d said Erin.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tennis West Head of Operations Olivia Birkett was grateful to Healthway for offering the Innovation Challenge funding, as it has provided an opportunity to target a new demographic to enjoy tennis.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe enjoyed the process pitching for our idea and were really pleased to receive the full amount of funding requested.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBoth the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) and Healthway want to increase participation in sport and recreation activities. To achieve an increase in tennis participation, Tennis West is seeking to engage with young people who have some level of disadvantage and find innovative ways to offer solutions and make a practical difference to their lives,\u201d said Olivia.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
