Over 100 participants from all parts of regional Western Australia descended onto Alexander Park Tennis Club last weekend for the 100th instalment of the CBH Group Country Week Championships.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Country Week Championships is one of the biggest tennis events in Western Australia and has a rich history with some of the best players in WA coming from the regional areas.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Continuing his form from last year, Joshua Carter from the Mid West claimed his 2<\/span>nd<\/span> consecutive men\u2019s championship singles title, defeating Bastien Henrotin from the South Coast.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After a two-year hiatus, the women\u2019s singles championship was fought out with Naomi-Mariana Vakadranu from Peel defeating Alexandra Riggall from Lower Great Southern.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On Saturday night, over 130 country week legends were inducted into the Country Week Hall of Fame. The 100-year anniversary event was a great chance to celebrate the achievements and contributions of past players and bring together the best of regional tennis.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tennis West CEO Brett Patten praised the tremendous success of this year\u2019s event and the wonderful fellowship and celebration of communities coming together.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a terrific opportunity to bring all those traditional key regional stakeholders back into the folds of the country week again, and really reignite the passion back in the country tennis.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe saw an excellent blend of younger and senior athletes at this year\u2019s championships, and it was wonderful to see so many regional athletes who have invested their time to come to Perth and participate in the premier regional event.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a firm believer that if we have a strong and dynamic regional community then tennis in Western Australia will be in a strong position.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe aim is to continually focus on growing coaching programs, giving opportunities to play more leagues and more competitions in the regions and again, just getting rackets into kids hands so they can feel what it\u2019s like to get onto a court.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
