{"id":18098,"date":"2022-12-12T11:58:48","date_gmt":"2022-12-12T03:58:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=18098"},"modified":"2022-12-12T11:59:09","modified_gmt":"2022-12-12T03:59:09","slug":"nikolic-jovanovski-win-14-u-australian-invitational-masters-singles-titles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2022\/12\/12\/nikolic-jovanovski-win-14-u-australian-invitational-masters-singles-titles","title":{"rendered":"Nikolic, Jovanovski win 14\/U Australian Invitational Masters Singles Titles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Western Australia&#8217;s Sara Nikolic and Victorian Daniel Jovanovski have won the 14\/u national singles titles at the 2022 December Showdown.<\/p>\n<p>The 14\/u Australian Invitational Masters girls\u2019 singles final was a fantastic contest between two outstanding players, who have both enjoyed excellent weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Western Australia\u2019s Sara Nikolic stood tallest, scoring a hard-fought 6-3 3-6 6-1 win over Victoria\u2019s Ava Beck.<\/p>\n<p>Nikolic spoke about riding the waves of momentum throughout the two-hour contest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI started off a bit shaky but managed to get some momentum and won the first set,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the second set I was up 3-1, then the momentum started to switch. Ava started playing really well. In the last set, I tried to reset and play more aggressive and control my nerves a bit better.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really happy to get through and really happy to win, it was a tough match.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 13-year-old reflected on a whirlwind week and the thrill of competing in the December Showdown.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve enjoyed competing and meeting everybody and learnt to focus on each game,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really keen to build from here and become a professional. Just be the best I can be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Queensland\u2019s Gina Cha and Victorian Scarlett Dattoli won the girls\u2019 doubles title.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Jovanovski\u2019s magical week wrapped up in style with an outstanding victory in the 14\/u Australian Invitational Masters boys\u2019 singles final today.<\/p>\n<p>Fresh from claiming the mixed doubles title yesterday (with South Australia\u2019s Diana Badalyan), Jovanovski continued his winning run during the December Showdown at Melbourne Park.<\/p>\n<p>The 14-year-old Victorian secured the singles title with a 6-1 6-1 victory against Western Australian Nemanja Savic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s so great to be here where it\u2019s all about to happen. Such an awesome feeling to win a title in Melbourne,\u201d Jovanovski said.<\/p>\n<p>Jovanovski had twice previously reached quarterfinals at national level, but he feels he has taken his game to another level and is getting the rewards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wasn\u2019t ready before to return so many balls, but working with the team at Tennis Australia has been so helpful,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve built a strong routine, I\u2019ve got stronger and I\u2019ve got better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jovanovski ended a perfect week by also claiming the doubles title alongside Western Australia\u2019s Cameron Burton.
