{"id":18032,"date":"2022-10-25T09:16:07","date_gmt":"2022-10-25T01:16:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=18032"},"modified":"2022-10-25T09:17:05","modified_gmt":"2022-10-25T01:17:05","slug":"prestigious-darcy-slater-cup-and-women-in-tennis-foundation-cup-returns-to-busselton-tennis-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2022\/10\/25\/prestigious-darcy-slater-cup-and-women-in-tennis-foundation-cup-returns-to-busselton-tennis-club","title":{"rendered":"Prestigious D\u2019Arcy Slater Cup and Women in Tennis Foundation Cup returns to Busselton Tennis Club"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The prestigious D\u2019Arcy Slater Cup (boys) and Women in Tennis Foundation Cup (girls), will return to the courts of the Busselton Tennis Club on Sunday 23 October, with junior tennis players travelling from across the state to compete in the longstanding regional tournaments.<\/p>\n<p>Attracting more than 90 junior tennis players from across the State, players from nine different zones, including Peel, Midwest, Upper Great Southern, Lower Great Southern, Great Southern, Southwest, Central Districts, Pilbara and Eastern Districts, will be hitting the courts to contest the U14 junior singles competition over four days.<\/p>\n<p>Players will also compete in the hotly contested zone based teams competition, with zones vying for the top gong in both boys and girls events.<\/p>\n<p>Succeeding the events originally named as the Clough Cup (boys) and Goolagong Cup (girls), the D\u2019Arcy Slater Cup and Women in Tennis Foundation Cup have retained a stronghold on the regional tournament calendar, owing to the competitive opportunity they bring to the aspiring athletes residing in regional WA.<\/p>\n<p>Held in high regard throughout the regional zones, Tennis West CEO, Brett Patten says the tournaments continue to attract talented players from across the regions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe D\u2019Arcy Slater Cup and Women in Tennis Foundation Cup have been longstanding events on our competition calendar for many years,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe events continue to attract a host of talented players from across regional Western Australia, who compete for the prestigious titles,\u201d Patten said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re really excited about the level of play we expect to see on display across the four days of the competition,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur regional players always compete at such a high standard, but we expect that this year will something extra special,\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cThe one thing that stands out year after year is just how important it is to provide these competitive playing opportunities to the junior athletes who reside in regional WA,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWestern Australia has a host of talented players out in the regions and these tournaments are crucial to the ongoing development of these aspiring athletes,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur deepest gratitude remains with the D\u2019Arcy Slater and Women in Tennis foundations whose ongoing support ensures these important regional events continue year after year,\u201d Patten added.<\/p>\n<p>The D\u2019Arcy Slater Cup and Women in Tennis Foundation Cup Junior Tournament will be held at the Busselton Tennis Club from Sunday 23 October to Wednesday 26 October 2022.<br \/>\nFor further event details and up to date results see here.<br \/>\nSupporting the D\u2019Arcy Slater Cup since 2004, the D\u2019Arcy Slater Foundation continues to do so in recognition of D\u2019Arcy\u2019s great love of tennis. D\u2019Arcy, who tragically drowned in the flooded Helena River in 1991, was an enthusiastic member of the Goomalling Tennis Club, the Guildford Grammar School Preparatory School tennis team and the Captain of tennis in year 8.
