{"id":16793,"date":"2021-10-12T10:57:41","date_gmt":"2021-10-12T02:57:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=16793"},"modified":"2021-10-13T16:57:05","modified_gmt":"2021-10-13T08:57:05","slug":"wa-tennis-industry-award-winners-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2021\/10\/12\/wa-tennis-industry-award-winners-announced","title":{"rendered":"WA Tennis Industry Awards Night aces return to Optus Stadium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recognising the outstanding achievements of WA\u2019s leading players, coaches, clubs, volunteers, officials, partner schools and local government bodies, the <strong>2021<\/strong> <strong>WA Tennis Industry Awards Night<\/strong> was held at Optus Stadium on Friday evening.<\/p>\n<p>The annual event, which has run since 2002, was cancelled in 2020 amid the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19. Acing the awards night return the evening boasted as the biggest in the event\u2019s history, with more than 20 award winners and four Hall of Champion inductees recognised in front of a packed audience at Optus Stadium\u2019s River View Room.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the 280 strong guest lists, special guests in attendance included David Cooper, Media Communications for Mark McGowan; Town of Vic Park Mayor Karen Vernon; Tennis Australia Board Member Greg Hutchinson; wife of the late Arthur Marshall, Helen Marshall; Life Members, Wayne Firns, Ray Collins and Michael Lee; in addition to Tennis West Board Members.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from the formalities of awards and inauguration of Hall of Champion inductees, the evening included a three-course meal, entertainment by comedian Peter Rowsthorn, music by Little Belle and the opportunity for professional photos in front of the large Tennis West and KC Australia media wall.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tennis West CEO Brett Patten<\/strong> says the WA Tennis Industry Awards Night is a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate the sport\u2019s hard-working clubs, volunteers, coaches and players, congratulating all nominees and award winners on their achievements throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the 2020 event cancelled, the 2021 WA Tennis Industry Awards Night was a wonderful opportunity to bring the WA tennis community together in celebrating the wonderful achievements of the past 24 months,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTennis in WA continues to go from strength to strength, and this wouldn\u2019t be possible without the dedication of our clubs, coaches, officials, volunteers, partner schools, local governments and players who remain committed to creating thriving tennis communities right across the state,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe rewards of these combined efforts are then realised through increased grassroots participation, accessible and welcoming tennis clubs, top-performing juniors who rank amongst the country\u2019s best and WA\u2019s professional players who continue to do us proud on the WTA and ATP tours,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNone of this is possible without the contribution of everyone involved, and our awards night ensures these wonderful individuals are celebrated and recognised accordingly,\u201d Patten said.<\/p>\n<p>Included in the Award Night formalities, was the inauguration of <strong>Hall of Champion inductees Jenny Byrne, Christine Dorey, Robert Casey and Christopher Johnstone<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>All winners of the WA Tennis Industry Awards Night will be nominated for their respective categories at the prestigious Newcombe Medal Australian Tennis Awards.<\/p>\n<p>Proudly presented by major sponsor KC Australia, the WA Tennis Industry Awards Night was held on Friday 8 October at Optus Stadium. The prestigious event celebrates the sport of tennis in Western Australia and recognises the outstanding achievements and contributions of the sport\u2019s players, officials, coaches, clubs, administrators, volunteers, partner schools and local governments.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to all award finalists and winners.
