{"id":16598,"date":"2021-07-22T00:19:20","date_gmt":"2021-07-21T16:19:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=16598"},"modified":"2021-08-28T09:20:41","modified_gmt":"2021-08-28T01:20:41","slug":"west-aussie-olympic-debutant-storm-sanders-sends-special-video-message-to-primary-school-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2021\/07\/22\/west-aussie-olympic-debutant-storm-sanders-sends-special-video-message-to-primary-school-students","title":{"rendered":"West Aussie Olympic debutant Storm Sanders sends special video message to primary school students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>West Aussie Olympic debutant and professional tennis player, <strong>Storm Sanders<\/strong> (Safety Bay), will inspire the students from <strong>Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School<\/strong> (Rockingham) on <strong>Friday 23 July<\/strong>, with a special video message sent from Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>Set to represent Australia in what will be her maiden games, Sanders will hit the courts with <strong>Wimbledon Champion <\/strong>and <strong>world No. 1 Ash Barty<\/strong> as the pair aim for Olympic gold in the women\u2019s doubles tennis event.<\/p>\n<p>Currently boasting career best rankings in both doubles and singles, Sanders is ranked respectively as the world No. 41 and No.134 player on the women\u2019s circuit.<\/p>\n<p>Excited to have been selected as part of the Olympic team for Tokyo, the left-handed player who began playing on the courts of the Rockingham Tennis Club whilst attending Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School, says being an Olympian is something she\u2019s always dreamt of.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Since I was I little girl I\u2019ve had the dream of being an Olympian and representing the green and gold,\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Even before I had the dream of playing tennis, it was to represent Australia at the Olympics so it\u2019s a really special moment and I\u2019m super excited to be heading to Tokyo to play in the doubles with Ash who\u2019s the best tennis player in the world right now,\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I was super pumped when Alicia Molik called to say I\u2019d been selected and I\u2019m just over the moon and feel incredibly privileged to be representing Australia in Tokyo,\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Growing up I always dreamt of competing at the Olympics and I just can\u2019t wipe the smile off my face,\u201d Sanders said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tennis West CEO, Brett Patten<\/strong>, says Sanders Olympic selection is an incredibly proud moment for the sport\u2019s state governing body.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018As the governing body of tennis in WA, the whole team are incredibly proud of all that Storm has achieved throughout her career,\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018From her days as a talented junior player, Storm has always been an impeccable role model and exemplary athlete, who we are honoured to call one of our own,\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018She\u2019s been grounded by the core values of Compete.
