{"id":16045,"date":"2020-12-07T11:26:40","date_gmt":"2020-12-07T03:26:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=16045"},"modified":"2021-03-08T11:42:21","modified_gmt":"2021-03-08T03:42:21","slug":"utr-junior-state-performance-championships-underway-at-state-tennis-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2020\/12\/07\/utr-junior-state-performance-championships-underway-at-state-tennis-centre","title":{"rendered":"UTR Junior State Performance Championships underway at State Tennis Centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hitting the courts of the <strong>State Tennis Centre<\/strong> today, more than 110 West Australian junior tennis players will compete in the <strong>UTR Junior State Performance Championships<\/strong>; a new series of events taking place across seven Australian states and territories this month.<\/p>\n<p>Running from <strong>Monday 7 to Tuesday 16 December<\/strong>, Perth will host tournaments across 12\/u, 14\/u, 16\/u and 18\/u age groups with the events replacing this year\u2019s December Showdown due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19 and state border restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>More than 850 junior players from across Australia will compete in the state based tournaments with host states including, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, Western Australia and the ACT.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProviding competitive playing opportunities for WA\u2019s junior players has remained a priority for Tennis Australia and Tennis West,\u201d Tennis West CEO <strong>Michael Roberts<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great to see so many players hitting the courts for the state based competition and we look forward to seeing some high quality tennis matches played over the next ten days,\u201d Roberts added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile it\u2019s been a tough year for tennis players, we are fortunate in Australia that through UTR we\u2019ve been able to continue to provide competitive opportunities for both juniors and pro players,\u201d UTR Junior State Performance Championships manager <strong>Francis Soyer<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know our junior players love any opportunity to compete and come together with their peers, and we hope the UTR State Performance Championships in each city provide a strong platform for juniors of all ages to do so in a fun and competitive way,\u201d Soyer added.<\/p>\n<p>Australian junior players who have competed in Australian Ranking tournaments and UTR events this year are eligible for the UTR Junior State Performance Championships.
