{"id":15554,"date":"2020-08-04T08:28:47","date_gmt":"2020-08-04T00:28:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=15554"},"modified":"2020-09-03T10:33:06","modified_gmt":"2020-09-03T02:33:06","slug":"grand-slam-champions-matt-ebden-john-peers-kick-start-racquet-roadshow-in-wa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2020\/08\/04\/grand-slam-champions-matt-ebden-john-peers-kick-start-racquet-roadshow-in-wa","title":{"rendered":"Grand Slam Champions Matt Ebden &amp; John Peers kick start Racquet Roadshow in WA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Grand Slam Champions<strong> Matt Ebden and John Peers <\/strong>yesterday visited\u00a0<strong>Duncraig Primary School<\/strong>\u00a0to hand out 50 brand new racquets to the Pre-Primary students, and kick start the <strong>2020 National ANZ Tennis Hot Shots Racquet Roadshow. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The fourth edition of the ANZ Tennis Hot Shots Racquet Roadshow will see <strong>30,000 Pre-Primary students<\/strong> from <strong>more than 800<\/strong> schools across Australia receive brand new tennis racquets.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiving back to grassroots tennis aligns with so much of what I\u2019m trying to do, and being involved in this year Racquet Roadshow is a great opportunity to inspire the next generation of players to pick up a racquet and have a go,\u201d said Australian Open 2013 Mixed Doubles Champion, Matt Ebden.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We\u2019re usually away on tour and unable to be involved in these great initiatives. Being home through COVID-19 has gifted us the opportunity to give back to where it all began for us,\u2019 said Australian Open 2017 Doubles Champion and Davis Cup Team Member, John Peers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ebden and Peers inspired the Duncraig students with highlights of their impressive tennis careers, which between them includes a host of ATP titles, two Australian Open Grand Slam titles and Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games and Australian Davis Cup Team appearances.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The pair then answered questions from the crowd of aspiring young tennis players, before handing out racquets and concluding the visit with a short tennis clinic for the students.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By December, <strong>170,000 racquets<\/strong> will have been delivered to schools across Australia since 2015, thanks to ANZ. And with published reports continuing to discuss declining levels of activity in children, the free racquets will help get kids moving at school, home and in the community.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur partnership with ANZ will give another 3,000 kids across WA the opportunity to get active and lead a healthy lifestyle,\u201d commented <strong>Tennis West CEO Michael Roberts.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTennis Australia\u2019s partnership with ANZ has helped us to put more racquets in children\u2019s hands than ever before.
