The State\u2019s South West is abuzz with tennis this week, after the 2020 Australian National Seniors Championships <\/strong>kicked off at the Bunbury and Busselton Tennis Clubs <\/strong>on Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The event is being held from the 5-17 January<\/strong> and will feature over 1,000 competitors across the team and individual events.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The popular \u201cTeams Carnival\u201d takes place in the first week of the event, with representative teams from WA, interstate and overseas. The Teams Carnival is a doubles competition for women and men, with age group divisions ranging from 35 to over 80 years old.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This year, the Teams event features an impressive 730 players from across the country, as well as international representation from Japan, Malaysia and New Zealand.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Naturally, WA Seniors Players have come out in droves to support this event, with over 374 representatives from across the state taking part in this prestigious event.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The WA teams will be looking to capitalise on their home ground advantage and grow on their success from last year\u2019s National Seniors event in Shepparton, where they took out the Over 80s Men\u2019s Title and the 55-60 Female Division 2 title.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

President of Tennis Seniors WA, Paul Moss<\/strong> is thrilled that WA was provided with the opportunity to host this event.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cWe are so pleased that this unique opportunity to hold the event in the South West of our State has been realised\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cOur main hope is for good, competitive tennis, played with the sportsmanship and camaraderie that is the hallmark of the Seniors brand\u201d Mr Moss said<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The brand new Busselton Tennis Club is the headquarters of the tournament, and is arguably one of the best regional tennis facilities in Australia, boasting 15 grass courts, 12 floodlit hard courts and an impressive clubhouse. \u00a0Coupled with the former Busselton Tennis Club site, and the Bunbury Tennis Club for the first week of the event, the players are provided with first class facilities in the heart of the State\u2019s tourist hot spots.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Busselton Tennis Club President, Hon Barry House AM <\/strong>is proud to play host to this tournament and aims to provide the players with a memorable experience.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cBusselton has the reputation as the \u2018Events Capital of WA\u2019, which will only be enhanced by this tournament\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBusselton is a bustling tourism mecca in January, so our players and spectators will be able to take advantage of the beautiful weather, sandy beaches and tourist attractions the South West has to offer, including the world\u2019s finest wines, food, caves and natural attractions\u201d Mr House said.<\/p>\n

Margaret Robinson<\/strong> who has been playing Seniors Tournaments for 45 years is delighted to be playing the event in her home state alongside so many WA compatriots.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cI think this event is absolutely wonderful and caters for every standard, which I love\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cIf you like winning, it is great, but it doesn\u2019t matter if you are coming last too, you will love the tennis and the lasting friendships you make\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m now 87 years old and I love that I can compete with people in my own age group\u201d Ms Robinson said<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The prestigious Australian Seniors Championships will follow the Teams Carnival. This event is an ITF (Grade A) tournament, offering singles, doubles and mixed doubles events in 5 year age brackets from the age of 35 years.<\/p>\n
