{"id":14839,"date":"2019-11-28T08:59:17","date_gmt":"2019-11-28T00:59:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=14839"},"modified":"2019-12-10T17:25:58","modified_gmt":"2019-12-10T09:25:58","slug":"manning-tc-to-celebrate-international-day-of-people-with-disability","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2019\/11\/28\/manning-tc-to-celebrate-international-day-of-people-with-disability","title":{"rendered":"Manning TC to Celebrate International Day of People with Disability"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Manning Tennis Club<\/strong>, in conjunction with the <strong>City of South Perth<\/strong> will celebrate <strong>International Day of People with Disability<\/strong> with an inclusive tennis \u2018Come and Try\u2019 day at the club on <strong>Wednesday 4 December<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The free community event is open to all members of the community with opportunities for those with or without a disability to have a go at wheelchair tennis and aims to serve as a reminder as to the importance of inclusion.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Having just returned from the <strong>Australian National Wheelchair Championships<\/strong> in Melbourne where he finished as Runner Up in the Men\u2019s B Draw Singles, wheelchair athlete <strong>Wayne Arnott<\/strong> says he\u2019s on a mission to bring world class wheelchair tennis to WA.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Come and try days are the first step in raising the profile of the sport here in WA, and attracting new players,\u2019<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It\u2019s exactly how I first came to be involved. I attended a come and try day at the State Tennis Centre with Grand Slam champion and former World Number 1 David Hall\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I now train most days and I\u2019m currently working on bringing an AMT event to Perth for 2020,\u2019<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The long term goal is an ITF event. That would mean we\u2019d have players from all over the world coming to play right here in Perth,\u2019 Arnott said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tennis West Project Leader of Clubs and Inclusion, Paula Gates<\/strong> says the day is a wonderful initiative by the City of South Perth and Manning Tennis Club.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Manning Tennis Club have been incredibly proactive in making the club an inclusive venue for players of all abilities and it\u2019s been great to see them well supported by the City of South Perth,\u2019<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The club\u2019s improved access to both the courts and club house facilities has been well considered with ACROD parking, new undercover paths and a universal toilet and shower.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Hosting the International Day of People with a Disability Come and Try Day is a great opportunity to celebrate the facility upgrades and bring more tennis opportunities to the members of the South Perth community,\u2019 Gates said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jessica Strutt <\/strong>of <strong>ABC Focus <\/strong>will be on site to host the station\u2019s morning program with special guests <strong>Tennis West CEO Michael Roberts<\/strong>, <strong>City of South Perth Inclusive Community Advisory Group Member<\/strong> <strong>Ross Harman<\/strong> and WA\u2019s No.1 ranked wheelchair tennis player <strong>Wayne Arnott.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The community day is open to everyone with or without a disability.
