{"id":14569,"date":"2019-08-15T16:06:33","date_gmt":"2019-08-15T08:06:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=14569"},"modified":"2019-08-15T16:06:33","modified_gmt":"2019-08-15T08:06:33","slug":"us-open-junior-debut-for-was-tristan-schoolkate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2019\/08\/15\/us-open-junior-debut-for-was-tristan-schoolkate","title":{"rendered":"US Open Junior Debut for WA\u2019s Tristan Schoolkate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WA\u2019s <strong>Tristan Schoolkate<\/strong> will depart Perth next week ahead of his debut appearance at the <strong>US Open Junior Tennis Championships<\/strong> commencing on <strong>1 September 2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 18 year old from Scarborough has played 15 national and international ITF tournaments this year, including the <strong>Australian Open Junior Championships, Roland Garros Junior Championships<\/strong> (qualifying) and <strong>The Wimbledon Junior Championships<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Proving his position as one of Australia\u2019s up and coming talents is Schoolkate\u2019s <strong>Junior ITF Ranking <\/strong>of <strong>36<\/strong> and <strong>Australian Ranking<\/strong> (AR) of <strong>39<\/strong>. As one of only four juniors inside the top 50 Australian men, Schoolkate compares well to emerging tennis stars <strong>Alex De Minaur<\/strong> and <strong>Jordan Thompson<\/strong> who lead the AR charge.<\/p>\n<p>Contributing to Schoolkate\u2019s ITF and AR rankings rise, and acceptance to the US Open Junior\u2019s, is an impressive 2019 performance showcase which boasts a <strong>Singles title<\/strong> at the <strong>J2 Prato<\/strong> in <strong>Italy<\/strong> and <strong>Doubles title<\/strong> in both <strong>Nonthaburi<\/strong> (Thailand) and <strong>Milan<\/strong> (Italy).<\/p>\n<p>Schoolkate has been at home in Perth since his Round of 16 exit from Wimbledon working with the National Academy team at the State Tennis Centre aiming to further strengthen his game and competiveness on the world junior stage.<\/p>\n<p>Charged for his debut at the US Open, Schoolkate says he\u2019s ready to hit the hard courts at Flushing Meadows and soak up the atmosphere that comes with a Grand Slam tournament.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to the opportunity,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully I can build on the results I had at Wimbledon and perform at my best in my last Junior Grand Slam,\u201d Schoolkate said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>National Academy Head Coach Mr Andrew Roberts<\/strong> says that Schoolkate has demonstrated quality tennis attributes throughout his developmental years at the Academy and that watching him grow as a person and player has been incredibly rewarding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been great to see Tristan enjoy success in his first full-time year on the tour since completing his Year 12 studies in 2018,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis hard work and commitment has seen impressive ranking and tournament results in 2019, most recently demonstrated in his performance at Junior Wimbledon where he defeated the 7th seed on his way to reaching the round of 16,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Junior Grand Slams offer valuable experiences for juniors as they make their transition through the professional ranks,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wish Tristan all the best during the US Open,\u201d Roberts said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Minister for Sport and Recreation Mick Murray<\/strong> wished Tristan all the very best on his upcoming US Open Juniors debut and acknowledged his performance and achievements over recent months.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI congratulate Tristan for this achievement, following on from his recent singles and doubles titles at international competitions in Italy, as well as his recent round of 16 performance at the Wimbledon Junior Championships,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTristan\u2019s success and burgeoning career on the international circuit is a real endorsement of the quality of junior and grassroots tennis in Western Australia, and of Tristan\u2019s commitment to his sport.
