{"id":14533,"date":"2019-08-01T14:55:39","date_gmt":"2019-08-01T06:55:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=14533"},"modified":"2019-09-05T11:59:47","modified_gmt":"2019-09-05T03:59:47","slug":"was-maddison-inglis-to-debut-at-us-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2019\/08\/01\/was-maddison-inglis-to-debut-at-us-open","title":{"rendered":"WA\u2019s Maddison Inglis to debut at US Open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WA\u2019s <strong>Maddison Inglis<\/strong> has capped off an impressive six month streak by gaining entry to the <strong>US Open<\/strong> qualifying draw with a <strong>career high WTA ranking<\/strong> of number <strong>209<\/strong> in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Determined to lower her WTA ranking and gain entry into Grand Slam qualifying draws, Inglis has competed in 17 tournaments, played more than 70 singles and doubles matches and appeared in a total of 14 quarterfinals, semifinals and finals matches across <strong>Australia, Asia, Great Britain <\/strong>and <strong>Canada<\/strong> since the beginning of 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Boasting a current year, <strong>win loss ratio of 27:10<\/strong>, Inglis has performed consistently well throughout 2019 to move an impressive 180 places on the WTA rankings since the end of 2018 when she was ranked 389.<\/p>\n<p>Showcasing her best tennis to date, Inglis recently claimed her <strong>second ITF Career Singles<\/strong> <strong>title<\/strong> at the <strong>W25 Saskatoon<\/strong> in Canada which follows her maiden ITF Singles title at the <strong>W25 Nonthaburi<\/strong> (Thailand) earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Forging her way through the draw of the <strong>W25 Saskatoon<\/strong> tournament, Inglis dug deep to come back from a set down in the Semifinal where, Haruka Kaji of Japan, took the first set 3-6. Inglis battled hard to win the second set in a 7-6 (7) tie break, before claiming the third set 6-2 to advance to the Final.<\/p>\n<p>Inglis went on to face the number one seed Katherine Sebov (CAN) in the Final where she won the first set 6-4 before a second set 2-6 loss forced the decider to a third. Proving her composure under pressure, Inglis took the third set 6-4 in claiming the <strong>Final<\/strong> of the <strong>W25 Saskatoon<\/strong> and her second ITF career title.<\/p>\n<p>Following her success at Saskatoon, Inglis took to the courts of the <strong>W80 Granby<\/strong> (Canada), where she finished as a <strong>Quarterfinalist<\/strong>. Further 2019 success for Inglis includes a <strong>Semifinals<\/strong> appearance at the <strong>W80 Gigu<\/strong> in Japan and a <strong>Finals showdown<\/strong> at the <strong>W25 <\/strong>in<strong> Hong Kong.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cementing her position on the Australian women\u2019s tennis scene as one to watch, Inglis holds an <strong>Australian Ranking<\/strong> (AR) of <strong>12<\/strong>. Comparable to <strong>World Number One Ashleigh Barty<\/strong>, who leads the Australian rankings charge ahead of <strong>Ajla Tomljanovic<\/strong> (2) and WA\u2019s <strong>Astra Sharma<\/strong> (3), Inglis says she\u2019s motivated to continue her recent form.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s so many Australian girls doing well at the moment,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt just feels like everyone is lifting each other and pushing each other to do well,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think this current group of women are going to have a lot to do with tennis moving forward,\u201d said Inglis.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on her recent success, Inglis says she\u2019s a different player than she was in the past bringing a lot more confidence and mental toughness to the court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been training really hard and have come to better understand my game,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI put my best into every training session and am no longer satisfied with a \u2018that will do attitude\u2019,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd because of that, I\u2019m a different player on court,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so much better at knowing how to respond when things aren\u2019t going my way,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s so much mental. I don\u2019t think I ever realised that until just recently,\u201d Inglis said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>National Academy Head Coach Andrew Roberts<\/strong> says Inglis has worked incredibly hard at improving her WTA ranking and that entry to the US Open qualifying rounds is well deserved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaddy has continued to invest time in the daily process of developing herself and her game.
