Yerecoin Tennis Club<\/strong> has good reason to celebrate, with the resurfacing of four synthetic courts officially opened on Saturday, March 9<\/strong> by Victoria Plains Shire President, Mr David Lovelock.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The opening of the newly resurfaced courts will culminate a three year commitment driven by the Yerecoin Tennis Club in the realisation of the $100,000 project\u2019s<\/strong> completion. Funding for the project was secured from the Yerecoin Progress Association, Victoria Plains Shire, Yerecoin Tennis Club, Sport Australia and Tennis Australia\u2019s National Court Rebate Scheme (NCR)<\/strong>. A $10,000 donation, from an anonymous source, was also received.<\/p>\n

Yerecoin Tennis Club President Mr Hugh Johnson<\/strong> said the efforts in securing the funding were largely due to the commitment of Club Secretary, Mrs Nat Nixon.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cNat has worked tirelessly over the last three years in securing the necessary funding for the resurfacing of our courts. She\u2019s very modest about the fact, but there\u2019s no denying that Nat was instrumental in the momentum which has ensured the projects completion,\u201d Mr Johnson said.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In line with the NCR objectives, the resurfacing project meets Tennis Australia\u2019s commitment to creating positive tennis environments for the long term success of the sport within Australia. The resurfacing of the four synthetic courts stands to ensure the clubs strong presence in the district, which services the rural communities of Calingiri, Piawanning, Bolgart, Mogumber and Gillingarra.<\/p>\n

Ensuring a safer and more competitive playing environment for everyone to enjoy, Mr Johnson said the project has given the facility a significant revitalisation boost, encouraging the likelihood of new member injection. Something Mr Johnson claims as fundamental in securing the clubs long-term future.<\/p>\n

\u201cGreat facilities brings people out of the woodworks, and we\u2019re confident that the resurfacing of our courts will do just that. It\u2019s about securing the future of our club and the significant sporting and social scene that it provides for our community,\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re working hard to increase our membership base and encourage a lifelong commitment to the sport and our club. Providing our members with great facilities is just the beginning of an exciting new chapter in our clubs long standing history\u201d Mr Johnson said.<\/p>\n

Situated as the only tennis club in the WA Wheatbelt Shire of Victoria Plains, the Yerecoin Tennis Club stands as a significant facility for community fitness, social interaction and cross generational contact for people in the rural area.<\/p>\n

Hosting eight locally sponsored member tournaments a year, as well as an open Ladies Day, the club provides both social and competitive needs for its 82 strong members who range in age from 6 through to those still playing well in to their 70\u2019s.<\/p>\n

The National Court Rebate (NCR), Tennis Australia\u2019s facility funding program, assists affiliated venues, local councils and schools to create positive environments for the long term success of tennis in Australia.<\/p>\n

Projects supported by the program range from developing new courts, upgrading or resurfacing existing court surfaces, ANZ Hot Shots courts, Tennis Australia\u2019s Book a Court with integrated gate access technology, associated tennis infrastructure, major projects and strategy & planning<\/p>\n

Since its inception, the program has proven to be a resounding success in stimulating more than 2,800 new or resurfaced tennis courts and considerable investment in the sport across Australia. The NCR continues to act as a catalyst for all tennis and government stakeholders to form partnerships and better plan for the provision of strategically located networks of community tennis venues.<\/p>\n
