top 12 and under tennis stars set sights on South Australia for Bruce Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Bruce Cup<\/strong>, the 2018 School Sport Australia Tennis Championships kicked off on Saturday with 112 athletes from across the country descending on Adelaide, South Australia for the prestigious event from 20 to 27 October, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tennis Australia in conjunction with School Sport Australia and School Sport South Australia are joining forces to bring the tournament for kids aged 12 and under to life after the tournament first began in 1939.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The tournament will see athletes compete in both team and singles events across two venues; the <strong>Seaside Tennis Club<\/strong> and the<strong> West Lakes Tennis Club<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Bruce Cup has impressive history, former greats such as <strong>Rod Laver<\/strong>, <strong>Ken Rosewall<\/strong>, <strong>Pat Rafter, Todd Woodbridge<\/strong>,<strong> Wally Masur<\/strong>, <strong>Alicia Molik<\/strong> and more recently, the likes of <strong>Ash Barty<\/strong>, <strong>Nick Kyrgios<\/strong>, <strong>Thanasi Kokkinakis<\/strong>, <strong>Jordan Thompson <\/strong>and <strong>Destanee Aiava<\/strong> all represented their respective states.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tennis Australia Director of Participation <strong>Paul Cammack<\/strong> said Bruce Cup was an opportunity to capitalise on quality match play opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Bruce Cup is a great team experience for juniors in the early stages of their tennis journey and an important step on their junior development pathway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn tennis we are committed to developing young Australians in both their sporting and educational endeavours and see the Bruce Cup as an integral part of this development.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlong with this, the Bruce Cup also provides a unique opportunity to forge new friendships and to have memorable cultural experiences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As well as an opportunity to take part in consistent and quality match play, the athletes will also get the chance to take part in an educational excursion on Wednesday 24 October, which will see them take a cruise down Port River on the Dolphin Explorer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quick Facts \u2013 <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mudiwa Munyimani <\/strong>(Vic) and <strong>Gloria Jovic<\/strong> (NSW) are the top ranked male and female players respectively according to their current 12\/u Australian Rankings<\/li>\n<li>New South Wales took home the Bruce Cup in 2017 for the first time since 1994<\/li>\n<li>The Bruce Cup was donated by Henry (Harry) Adam Bruce to encourage an interstate school tennis competition between Queensland and New South Wales<\/li>\n<li>New South Wales won the first event held in 1939<\/li>\n<li>The Bruce Cup is now a national competition with all eight states and territories competing<\/li>\n<li>The Bruce Cup has a long and proud tradition with many of Australia\u2019s finest tennis players beginning their international careers at this event<\/li>\n<li>At the 1948 competition <strong>Ken Rosewall<\/strong> played <strong>Roy Emerson<\/strong> and met his future wife Wilma
